Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Ban gaye gentleman baaba ban gaye gentleman

Posted on: November 20, 2015

This article is written by Avinash Scrapwala, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a contributor to this blog. This article is meant to be posted in atulsongaday.me. If this article appears in sites like lyricstrans.com and ibollywoodsongs.com etc then it is piracy of the copyright content of atulsongaday.me and is a punishable offence under the existing laws.

Though the purpose of this post is to introduce and launch the posting of songs in a “new” film on the blog, this time the film is not from the Seventies, but it’s a film of the Fifties and I became aware of this film’s name when I was searching info for my earlier post where I shared a song from the 1979 film ‘Khaandan’.

So far, we have three films titled ‘Khandan’ featured on our blog. These are from 1942, 1965 & 1979. But there was one more film having the same title ‘Khandan’ in 1955. (it would be interesting to see how it is spelled in HFGK 🙂 , and I feel for the benefit of all, on our blog at least, we should decide one spelling for all ‘Khandan’s to make the search easy for all.

When I checked our blog, I found that this film of 1955 is yet to make an entry on the blog. I search for its songs and links for almost all the seven songs of this film seem to be available there.

Now when you have a film to make a debut and that too from the Fifties and links of almost all of its songs also available there, it brings excitement and joy but with a dilemma of which song should we start first?

After lot of thinking 🙂 I am introducing herewith this song sung by Mubarak Begam and Yashodhara (as per informaton available on myswar.com).

As per information available online this film was directed by M.L.Anand. Its cast includes Anwar, Manmohan Krishna, Murad, Lalita Pawar, Badri Prasad, Maruti Rao, and Shyama. Music of this film was composed by A.R.Qureshi.

As per myswar.com three lyricists have penned the songs for this film viz. Majrooh Sultanpuri, Tanveer Naqvi and Sarshar Sailani. Afzal Hussain, Asha Bhonsle, Bande Hussain, Madhubala Zaveri, Mohd Rafi, Mubarak Begam, S.Balbir, S.D.Batish, Yashodhara have given voices to the songs.

I would request Atul ji to kindly verify the details from HFGK and add/delete and/ or correct the details if needed.

I would also request knowledgeable readers to provide the correct words at few places where I have not been able to get them correctly.

With this ‘Khandan-1955’ making debut on the blog, I hope all the ‘Khandan’s are at one place together, and now its turn for the ‘legacy’ of the family ‘Khandani’ (1947) to make it to the blog, of which the songs seems to be unavailable online, as of now.

Let us now enjoy the today’s songs sung by Mubarak Begam & Yashodhara and composed by A.R.Qureshi. Lyrics of this song are by Sarshar Sailani.

Lyrics

Ban gaye gentleman
Baaba ban gaye gentleman
Ban gaye gentleman
Baaba ban gaye gentleman

Ghadi jeb mein
Chhadi haath mein
Sar par hat sajaayi re
Ghadi jeb mein
Chhadi haath mein
Sar par hat sajaayi re
Do aane ki neck tie ne
Kaisi shaan badhaayi re
Kaisi shaan badhaayi re
Lagte hain laptain
Lagte hain laptain
Baaba ban gaye gentleman
Baaba ban gaye gentleman
Ban gaye gentleman
Baaba ban gaye gentleman

Kanpur se jootaa aaya
sab lag karein badaai re
Kanpur se jootaa aaya
sab lag karein badaai re
Africa se ?? gypsy ne
bilti se bhijwaayi re
bilti se bhijwaayi re
Jaana hai Ujjain
Jaana hai Ujjain
Baaba ban gaye gentleman
Baaba ban gaye gentleman
Ban gaye gentleman
Baaba ban gaye gentleman

Bade thhaathh se chale hain baaba
Moonchh ko dekar taav re
Bade thhaathh se chale hain baaba
Moonchh ko dekar taav re
Pataa chalega ab Daddy ko
Aate daal ka bhaav re
Aate daal ka bhaav re
Dadda dadda den
Dadda dadda den
Baaba ban gaye gentleman
Baaba ban gaye gentleman
Ban gaye gentleman
Baaba ban gaye gentleman

Jab tak Bambai se Daadi ka
Khat nahin aata Baaba ko
Jab tak Bambai se Daadi ka
Khat nahin aata Baaba ko
Khaana peena chalna phirna
Kuchh nahin bhaata Baaba ko
rahte hain bechain
rahte hain bechain
Baaba ban gaye gentleman
Baaba ban gaye gentleman

I suggest
‘lagte hain laptain’ – laptain is colloquial for lieutenant.
‘ sab lag karein badhai re’ -sab lag for sab log.
Couldn’t make out what came from Africa.

Thanks a lot !!
I could not get the word ‘laptain’ and was not sure about ‘sab lag karein badhaayi re’ …
Now, we have to ‘get’ the right thing from ‘Africa’ 🙂
Thanks again !

Yashodhara
Ae Dil Beqarar Tu Aur Na Beqarar Kar
Shankar Dasgupta, Geeta Dutt, Shankar Dasgupta Manmohan Sabir Sheeshe Ki Deewar (1954)
Yeh Do Nigahen Kehna Jo Chaahe Jaan
Chandrakant Akhtar Romani Do Dost (1960)

There was an actress Yashodhara Katju who acted in movies like Chandralekha-48; Rakhi-49; Aankhen-50; Dholak-51. Are they the same person?

As per my site Majrooh has not penned the lyrics but Ravi has.

Very very lively song…..opening ball pe sixer mardiya aapne Avinashji… If these were the kind of songs in the movie then aage kya aayega ???? 😊😊

Thanks for your ‘motivating’ comments 🙂
