“Mehbooba”(1954) was produced and directed by K Amarnath. The movie had Nalini Jaiwant, Shammi Kapoor, Hiralal, Achla Sachdev, Amar, Wazir Mohammad Khan, Ramesh Thakur, Amrit Rana, Gope etc in it.

Eight songs from this movie have been discussed in the past.

This movie had two music directors, viz Roshan and O P Nayyar. All the five songs composed by O P Nayyar in this movie are already covered. Three out of four songs of Roshan are also covered.

The ninth and final song from this movie is a rare song that was not available on YT. On searching, I managed to find this song with me.

So here is the ninth and final song from “Mehbooba”(1954) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Lata. Tanveer Naqvi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Roshan.

Only the audio of this song is available. It is clear that the song (in case it was picturised) was lip synced by Nalini Jaiwant on screen.

With this song, “Mehbooba”(1954) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.

Lyrics

Mukhtsar si hai meri kahaani ee
zara sun lo badi meharbaani ee
zara sun lo badi meharbaani
mukhtsar si hai meri kahaani ee
zara sun lo badi meharbaani ee
zara sun lo badi meharbaani

kahaa maine muhobbat na karna aa
kahaa maine muhobbat na karna aa
meri ek hi dil ne na maani
meri ek hi dil ne na maani
na maani
zara sun lo badi meharbaani
mukhtsar si hai meri kahaani
zara sun lo badi meharbaani ee
zara sun lo badi meharbaani

bada bedard hai wo zamaana
bada bedard hai wo zamaana
jise kehti hai duniya jawaani
jise kehti hai duniya jawaani ee
zara sun lo badi meharbaani ee
zara sun lo badi meharbaani
mukhtsar si hai meri kahaani ee
zara sun lo badi meharbaani ee
zara sun lo badi meharbaani

nazren kehti hain dil ka fasaana aa
nazren kehti hain dil ka fasaana
ye hai ulfat ki pehli nishaani
ye hai ulfat ki pehli nishaani
nishaani
zara sun lo badi meharbaani
mukhtsar si hai meri kahaani ee
zara sun lo badi meharbaani ee
zara sun lo badi meharbaani
mukhtsar si hai meri kahaani ee
zara sun lo badi meharbaani ee
zara sun lo badi meharbaani

First today to “YIPEEEEEE”
I am talking about the time, I had just finished studying (Sound Engineer) and was doing apprenticeship in Famous Cine Lab. One fine morning Radio Ceylon played “Aa ke ab aataa nahin dil ko qaraar” from ‘Mehbooba’. Sruck by the sweetness of the song, I went to one of the theaters at Grant Road to see the film. I was late there and had missed the titles of the film. When one after the other songs came, I could not identify my favorite Roshan with those songs. I had to ask the person on my side about the MD of the film. When he told me it was OP, I could not sit through the film and left it there and then. (I was running my individual boycott campaign against OP) Much later I came to know that there were four songs by Roshan in that film. (I am proving that I WAS eccentric even in those days!!)

There were songs by Lata in this movie. So how you could not guess that those songs could not be O P Nayyar’s compositions ? 🙂

Bhai saheb, Lata ke gaane to us film men baad men aaye. Dekhne gaya tab Roshan hi MD hai yeh samaz ke gaya tha. Bhool pata chali to nikal pada. Lata aur meri liking similar hai yeh to mere liye khushi ki baat hai na?

It is street song picturised on Nalini Jaywant. Gope is on the hormonium while Shammi Kapoor is in the audience.
