Songs to Tickle Your Memory – 30
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

The inboxes on my email, mobile and YouTube account seems to be getting as many reminder messages these days, as messages for request. 🙂 This song apparently has not yet surfaced in public domain. And for those who have heard it, and remember it, this is a vintage Chitragupt melody – stuff that memory ticklers are made of. I got requests from more than one friend (Arvinder ji included, of course) to post this song. And our dear friend Manju ji (daughter of producer director K Amarnath) is also waiting for this song.

I was puzzled when I got the requests. This film, ‘Kaabli Khan’ from 1963, has been released on disc, quite sometime back. I checked the online sources, and to the extent that I could survey, I was unable to locate this song. So I pulled out the disc from my collection, and carefully reviewed the film twice. This song is not on the disc. Now I am not sure whether this song was excluded from the film itself when originally released, or is this the handiwork of the disc publisher, who may have spliced out this song to adjust the movie running time. I request knowledgeable friends and readers who may have seen this film when originally released, to please let us know if they recall seeing this song onscreen.

The lyrics are from the pen of Majrooh Sultanpuri. The singing voice is that of Lata Mangeshkar. As I check the list of actors of this film, I am unable to identify any name in the cast list, other than Helen, who could possibly have performed this song onscreen. The cast list reads as follows – Ajit, Helen, Jayant, Ulhas, Mukri, Samson, Salim, Indira Bansal, Wazir Mohammed Khan, Amrit Rana, Deepak, Fazal Khan, Prem Shukla, Nazir and Kesri. The playful rendition and the sound of the song plays as a Helen song. This is my intuition, and I may be wrong. Once again, I request other friends and readers to please comment on this.

A lovely tuneful melody, that is hallmark of Chitragupt’s music. A song of enticement – the lady is trying to evoke and enhance the interest of the gentleman, with promises of alluring temptations to follow. A pleasing memory from the radio listening days, with the regret that this song is missing from the disc version. Will now have to track down a VHS version if available, and check that out. Till that discovery happens, lets enjoy the audio version of the song – which, mind you, is quiet enticing by itself. 🙂

Song – Ae Hazrat Ye Hai Pehli Adaa (Kaabli Khan) (1963) Singer – Lata Mangeshkar, Lyrics – Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD – Chitragupt

Lyrics

ae hazrat ye hai pehli adaa
allah kasam bas pehli adaa
abhi se huye jaate ho fida..aa..aa
ae hazrat ye hai pehli adaa
allah kasam bas pehli adaa
abhi se huye jaate ho fida..aa..aa
ae hazrat ye hai pehli adaa

raaz e dil
nazar se hai chhalka sa
ye to hai
ishaara ik halka sa
raaz e dil
nazar se hai chhalka sa
ye to hai
ishaara ik halka sa
abhi se jo hua
mastaana
deewaana
to uska nigehbaan khuda
ae hazrat ye hai pehli adaa
allah kasam bas pehli adaa
abhi se huye jaate ho fida..aa..aa
ae hazrat ye hai pehli adaa

kab dekhin
adaayen tum ne saari
sholay ne
udaai ik chingaari
kab dekhin
adaayen tum ne saari
sholay ne
udaai ik chingaari
agar sachmuch
kahin dola
ye shola
to dega mehfil ko jalaa..aa..aa
ae hazrat ye hai pehli adaa
allah kasam bas pehli adaa
abhi se huye jaate ho fida..aa..aa
ae hazrat ye hai pehli adaa. . .

Typical Chitragupta number. Lively

Thanks a lot Arvinder Ji and Sudhir ji.I had also made a request for this song.
Listening this song now after fifty odd years.I had seen this movie on release and this song was very much there. It used to be on vividh bharati almost everyday.Don’t remember more than this.
Regards

Thanks for uploading this song on your blog. I too had heard on Vividh Bharati. I have posted my comments as below in YT:

“I had heard this song during the ‘Radio’ days. But after the dawn of ‘internet’ era, I was searching for this song for many years. I got this song from a friend of mine about 2/3 years ago. There is no ‘Video’ available . One may have to infer that this song might not be a part of the movie released. No one can imagine how such a lovely song could me omitted from the movie. At least now we can enjoy the song. Thanks for uploading on YT.”

Thank you very much, Sudhirji, for uploading this lovely missing song from my dad’s movie – Kabli Khan (1963).
Appreciate all your hard work and dedication.
Sorry could not throw any light on the picturization or the reason why it was omitted from the movie.
Thanks to you that after so many years we got this wonderful opportunity to listen to it.
Regards
Manju Amarnath Das

For all we know it could be on Helen.
Chitragupt was a highly educated and a gentleman. So were his dances and even cabaret songs(remember Helen number the one Mai Chup Rahungi Mere Dil Kabhi To Koi Aayega) were decent!!!

I had seen this movie. Of course, it was a very popular number of its time. My first (and quite vivid) recollection was that this song was very much on the film screen, and enacted by the heroine, Helen trying to entice the hero, Ajit. I could have sworn to this effect.
However, after reading your post Sudhir ji, as also the comments of other connoisseurs, I am wondering whether my memory is playing tricks considering the long passage of time – over 50 years. After all, you had watched the disc twice and did not find it playing on the screen.
Yet, I would stick my neck out and stand by my story.
Whatever may be the case, there is no denying the fact that it is a peppy number from Chitragupta ji’s khazana.
Thank you very much for this gem.
Warm regards,
Avadh Lal
