Lata’s Songs NOT YET covered on our Blog – 6
—————————————————–

1948 film ‘ASHA’ was a social film, Produced by Jagdish Film Circuit, Banglore, (now Bangaluru) directed by Meghani. Lyrics by L Meghani were set to music by the great MD Khemchand Prakash. According to HFGK, the Star-cast included Shanta Kunwar, Sohan, Samson, Shivraj, Tiwari, Urvashi, Laxman Rao, Sreemati Pal, Master Sharad etc.

There were five songs by Lataji and this is the fifth and the last of her songs from this musical film, being covered on this wonderful musical Blog. During the initial years of the discovery of this wonder-voice, MD Khemchand Prakash did not lag behind in capturing the young voice of teen-ager Lata. She sang 13 solos and one duet for him in three films viz Asha, Ziddi and Mahal.

Only the other day, Peevesie’s Mom presented a lovely Lata song from film ‘Asha’, but that was from a 1957 film with the same name.

This seems to be a parting song with semi-philosophical lyrics describing the meaning of life, as the heroine sums up in the hopeless situation she finds herself. The tune by Khemchandji is full of pathos and Lata gives full justice with the right ‘dard’ needed, making the song typically ‘my type’. Such songs after the span of sixty-eight years are still according to me, “Sweet thhe aur sweet rahenge.”

Song– Door Jaaye Re (Asha)(1948) Singer – Lata Mangeshkar, Lyrics – L Meghani, MD– Khemchand Prakash

Lyrics

door jaaye re ae
door jaaye re

door jaaye re ae
door jaaye re
raah meri aaj teri raah se
door kahin door door
door jaaye re ae
door jaaye re ae

door se hi maang rahi
o piya aa aa aa aa
aaj tum se
aaj tum se aakhri bidaayi re
raah meri aaj teri raah se
door kahin door door
door jaaye re ae

zindagee ko koi kehta ik safar …
ik safar
kahaani do dinon ki hai
yeh kehta hai koi
par mujh se poochho to
kahoongi zindagee ee ee ee ee
muhabbat aur museebat ka
mahaa aa sangraam hai

mere pyaar mein to yeh sansaar se
haar maan lee ?? aaj haaye re
raah meri aaj teri raah se
door kahin door door
door jaaye re

I must confess I am not that big a fan of lata mangeshkar’s voice post I think 1960 though i like many of her songs, don’t know what happened to her. But her voice was different in the period to which this particular song belongs to.
And this song reminds me of my other favorite of that time frame—– aayega aanewala.

In her earlier period the voice was very natural; after 50s surprising it became sweeter and clearer and after 80s you could feel the strain.
Somewhere I read that even if she had died in 1950s she would still have become immortal. It means she achieved and reached the pinnacle of her career in 50s itself and there was nothing more to achieve thereafter.

Mam,
There are many who may share your views.
I was just sixteen when this newNEW voice came and I along with many of that period were swept away by the enchanted voice, which was quite different from the other popular voices then.
After so many years my devotion for that voice has not reduced a bit and Lataji’s songs of those initial years still appeals straight to my heart.
