So another new year is upon us. 2016 is gone and now we are into 2017. Celestially speaking, the earth has completed one full circle round the sun during this period. While the earthlings were busy indulging in their petty activities during this year, the earth covered a distance of 970 millions km at a speed of 107000 kmph which is a speed of 30 km/second !

If we take a look back, we find that the song Pyaar karna ho to kar lo from “Taara”(1949), which was post number 11718, was the first post of the year. This post, which is the last post of the year is post number 12749th. So, this blog added 1032 songs to its tally in the year at a rather low average of 2.8 songs per day. This was rather slow going, considering that we have even added 2000 plus songs in a year in the past. Our overall average is still 4.12 songs per day for the 3088 days that it has been online, which is quite an achievement.

“Pooja”(1954) became the first YIPPEED movie of the year and 736th YIPPEED movie of the blog on the first day of 2016. The tally of YIPPEED movies at the end of the year stands at 850 at present. Though my new year resolution of YIPPying one movie every day could not be adhered to, still 115 movies YIPPEED in one year is no mean achievement.

“Noor e Ilaahi” (1976) made its debut in the blog on 2 january 2016 and “Chaalis Karod”(1945) was the final movie to make its debut in the blog in 2016. In all, a whopping 275 movies made their debuts in the blog in 2016, taking the total number of movies represented in the blog to 3574.

The blog saw its 12000th writeup being posted this year, as also the “artificial” but nevertheless eagerly anticipated landmarks of post number 12345 as well as post number 13579. 🙂

If we have coined a term called “YIPPEE” to describe movies that have all their songs covered, we have another term coined for the get togethers of our regulars. we call them “gang outs”. 🙂 We saw a few mini gang outs as well as a few full fledged gang outs in the year that took place at places like Chennai, Bangalore and Mumbai. The reports on these gangouts were sent promptly, unlike past gangouts. So, regulars were becoming prompt, despite not making any new year resolutions to that effect. 🙂

Coming to my own activities, I made a visit to Mumbai via Delhi this year but did not inform any regulars there because I was at Mumbai to get my daughter admitted to a medical college in Mumbai after NEET 2016 after which I promptly came back. It appears that she is enjoying her stay at Mumbai to the fullest, and is actively participating in all extracurricular activities. She was in her college’s team that won first prize in Mood Indigo cultural festival’s dance competition at IIT, Powai last sunday.

The fact that I did not inform regulars despite being at Mumbai left our regulars unamused. 🙂 I was told that I too would not be informed when they visit Bareilly. 🙂

The post deepaawali phase of this year is noted for “demonetisation”. Personally I was not fazed much. As someone who is using internet since 1997 and online banking since 2008, to my mind, it was a reform that was badly overdue. Better late than ever. I am sure that this reform will change the face of India the way “openeing up of Indian economy” in 1991 changed the face of India. I, as well as my wife and daughter, all staying in three different places of different sizes in three different states report that we all have managed to tide over the situation well after initial hiccups.

As the final song of the year 2016, and also as a song to usher in the new year, here is this song with “live at the present” message in it. This song from ‘Abhi To Jee Len”(1977) is sung by Kishore Kumar and chorus. It is a 1970s style dance song which is picturised on Kiran Kumar, Radha Saluja, Danny, Paintal, Shashi Kiran, Chinoo etc. Naqsh Llayalpuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by Sapan Jagmohan.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

Here is hoping everyone a very happy and prosperous new year 2017. Here is hoping that our musical bandwagon will go on and on and we will continue to achieve many milestones along the way.

Song-Na jaane aglaa pal saathhi hoga kaisa (Abhi To Jee Lein)(1977) Singer-Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Naqsh Llayalpuri, MD-Sapan Jagmohan
Chorus

Lyrics(Provided by Prakashchandra)

na jaane
aglaa pal saathi
hoga kaisaa…aaa
aayegaa
jo bhi kal saathi
hoga kaisaa…aaa
na jaane
aglaa pal saathi
hoga kaisaa..aaa
aayegaa
jo bhi kal saathi
hoga kaisaa….aaa
abhi to jee lein
abhi to jee lein
abhi to jee lein
abhi to jee lein
na jaane
aglaa pal saathi
hoga kaisaa
aayegaa
jo bhi kal saathi
hoga kaisaa

abhi to jee lein
abhi to jee lein
abhi to jee lein
abhi to jee lein

abhi hai jawaan
zindagi ka safar
miley na miley
phir suhaani dagar
ke jo dekhe hain
inn aankhon ne
unn sapnon ko liye chalo o
ke jo dekhe hain
inn aankhon ne
unn sapnon ko leke chalo

na jaane
aglaa pal saathi
hoga kaisaa..aaa
aayegaa
jo bhi kal saathi
hoga kaisaa
na jaane
aglaa pal saathi
hoga kaisaa
aayegaa
jo bhi kal saathi
hoga kaisaa

abhi to jee lein
abhi to jee lein
abhi to jee lein
abhi to jee lein

abhi doston
waqt hai meharbaan
abhi
door hain
gham ki parchhaayiyaan
ye dil deewanaa
jo bhi chaahey
woh afsane kahey chalo o o
ye dil diwanaa
jo bhi chaahey
woh afsaane kehte chalo

na jaane
aglaa pal saathi
hoga kaisaa..aaa
aayegaa
jo bhi kal saathi
hoga kaisaa
na jaane
aglaa pal saathi
hoga kaisaa
aayegaa jo bhi kal saathi
hoga kaisaa…aa

abhi to jee lein
abhi to jee lein
abhi to jee lein
abhi to jee lein

abhi to jee lein aen
abhi to jee lein

The NEW term coined for get-together by us was ‘MumbAtulites’.
I hope it was noticed by some Atulites.

This movie was made when most of the actors were studying in Film Institute, Pune, in around 1969-70. It was released, after they became famous. You can notice several other students, who were aiming stardom, while studying there. Jeet (son of Surendranath) is one of them, we can notice!!
