So far none of the posts presenting the songs of this movie have discussed the movie. This movie is available online and I watched it to know more about today’s song. While doing so I came across some interesting messages (good efforts for social awakening) so I thought that I should touch upon the storyline/plot of this movie.

The storyline of this movie is along predictable lines so viewers can easily guess the end of this movie, so mentioning the story of this movie and revealing the end should not lead to less enjoyment on the part of those who want to watch it.

So I will begin at the end of this movie.  The movie ends with a big ‘?’ question mark. And before the question mark the audience is requested to solve a ‘problem’.

Please Solve this
PROBLEM
Ye mushqil hal kijiye
?

And before this we have the following message on ‘screen’

HOW LONG

Such people will go on dieing,
just to educate a daughter and
to get her married in a good family.

कब तक ऐसे लोग एक लड़की को अच्छी तालीम और उसे
एक अच्छे घराने में ब्याहने के लिए अपनी जानें देते रहेंगे

And, just before this, Raj Kumar, the hero of the movie, dies sacrificing his life to save his sister’s marriage, who is getting married to his master’s son (‘thekedaar ka beta’).

From here, we will go to the point where the movie begins. It begins with a request to the viewers;

It is my request to all the rich brothers, who so ever has come to see this movie in this hall that spare some money for the poor neighbours.

As the education and equal opportunity of life is the birthright of every human being

And then we see the following on screen.

A poor tongawala
who was an idealist

Enter Rajkumar on a tonga in the background as the titles roll.

This movie was Naresh Saigal’s own presentation and he also directed this movie along with writing its story. Its star cast includes Raaj Kumar, Nishi, Naaz, Dhoomal, Indira, Helen and Johny Walker, with Mahendra, Jagdish Raj, Rajoo, Radheyshyam, Sudesh, Asi, Hari Mehta, Munshi Munaqa, Pratima Devi, and introducing Kewal Kumar.

Screenplay was written by Shivaji Rathore, and Pran Mehra was the editor of this movie.

The songs of this movie were written by Sahir Ludhianvi, Qamar Jalalabadi and Naqsh Lyallpuri, and Asha Bhonsle, Mohammed Rafi, Mahendra Kapoor and Balbir gave their voices to these songs which were composed by Ravi.

Here is a brief about this movie as given with the link of this movie online.

Kaalu lives a poor lifestyle with his widowed mother and an unmarried school-going sister Sona and a younger brother, Birju. Kaalu makes a living driving a horse-carriage (Tonga), and the family lives a hand to mouth existence. Most of Kaalu’s earnings are spent on medications for his ailing mother, and fees & books for Sona and Birju. His mother decides to lend a hand, does some work at a construction site, and tragically passes away. Sona completes her education and falls in love with a wealthy young man named Raju. When Kaalu finds out, he goes to Raju’s dad, who is none other than Kaalu’s employer, who refuses to accept Sona as his daughter-in-law, but subsequently changes his mind, apologizes to Kaalu and both decide on an early marriage. While Kaalu is grateful that Sona’s future in-laws are not taking any dowry, he decides to marry off his only sister in style and give a big party. The question remains – where will Kaalu get the money to host this reception?

Coming back to today’s song. I was longing to share it since long, but since it had two versions and the ‘happy version’ was not available, I was not able to do share it.

However the regular searching and browsing finally succeeded couple of months back when I located a version of this song on YT uploaded by Ashwani Kumar ji. My thanks to him for making this song available for all. I was aware of the other (sad) version of this song, the video of which was already available. Since it’s on a ‘sad note’, after listening to the song uploaded by Ashwani Kumar ji I guess that this was the ‘happy version’ of the song.

I have combined the audio of both versions and uploaded them in one link for the listening pleasure of music lovers. However it seems that the first part or the ‘happy version’ was not included in the movie (it is not there on the online version of the movie at least) and so its video is not available.

With today’s song all the songs written by Sahir Ludhianvi for this movie get covered and now only one song from this movie written by Qamar Jalalabadi is to be posted to get all its songs covered on the blog.

Let us now listen to the today’s song sung by Asha Bhonsle which is composed by Ravi and written by Sahir Ludhianvi as mentioned above.

Audio (Parts I and II)

Part-I (हर्ष)
