Hullo to all in Atuldom

I have written two posts in the past to celebrate this actor’s birthday. Both times the occasion had been a last-minute discovery. Also last year I happened to discover that this actor shared his special date with music composer- Pyarelal Ramprasad Sharma, of the Laxmikant- Pyarelal duo.

Pyarelal Sharma was the son of a trumpeter popular as “Babaji” or Ramprasad Sharma and learnt the basics of music from his father. He was tutored to play the violin by a Goan musician, Anthony Gonsalves – a music composer and arranger who had assisted many prominent music directors of the 50s & 60s and it is widely believed that hugely popular song “My name is Anthony Gonsalves” that Laxmi-Pyare composed for Manmohan Desai’s Amar Akbar Anthony was a tribute to Pyarelalji’s music teacher. He made his entry into movies along with Laxmikant Kudalkar by assisting all the reputed composers of the 50s. In fact, they also assisted R D Burman in his first movie “Chhote Nawab” and their friendship continued even after L-P made a name for themselves in later years. The stats page of our blog gives the number of songs by this duo as 2901 and we have posted only 772 songs; so that leaves us with a very wide choice to go with this post.

But when we try to find songs in combination with the actor who turns a year older today, things become slightly difficult. Though L-P have given music to many movies that starred this actor there are very few songs actually picturised or choreographed on him. This is partly because in the period when L-P were active this actor used to primarily play villainous roles. He might be present on the scene during a song or two but not actually shake a leg, “John Jaani Janardhan” from Naseeb is one such example (that was an L-P composition)- our today’s birthday boy is present in the song as Amitabh’s boss. Now I see an “Aah! I know who she is talking about” reaction from whoever is reading this.

Of course, there are two bosses for Amitabh in that song and so, without further ado, let us wish Shakti Kapoor on his birthday. 🙂
Today’s song is from Yash Johar’s Dharma Productions’ 1990 release “Agneepath” which was directed by Mukul Anand. The title was taken from Harivanshrai Bachchan’s poem with the same name which is recited at the beginning of the movie. It starred Amitabh Bachchan and Danny in main characters and Shakti Kapoor plays himself (an actor visiting Kancha Cheena, the villain, in his den) in a guest appearance for a song and dance sequence along with Archana Puran Singh.

The song confirms, what I always felt, that Shakti Kapoor was a better dancer than many of the lead actors, barring Mithun Chakravarty Jeetendra or Govinda (to name a few of our good dancing actors), of that time who used to be his co-stars. He definitely had a sense of rhythm. And he looks so good in this song, that I have a feeling he should have got a few lead actor or hero-type roles. I remember seeing him in a movie where Smita Patil falls in love with him and marries him only to be cheated later on. The same was the case with Swaroop Sampat in Himmatwala and Karamdaata.

The song was written by Anand Bakshi. Aadesh Shrivastava and Runa Laila are the playback singers. Goga Kapoor and Bob Christo are seen frolicking around in the party.

Here is wishing Pyarelalji and Shakti Kapoor a very Happy and musical birthday today (3 september 2018).

I have to add one information to the knowledge of the our honorable readers. The writer has said that in very few movies Shakti kapur has shown his dancing skills. I do remember many songs ….remember… as dekhe Zara ( Rocky)…Duggi pe duggi ho ya …( Satte pe satta) Disco 84….(Inquilaab) etc.

I seemed to have found one more Shakti Kapoor fan. A person who has a list of movies where Shakti Kapoor has ‘danced’. “Aah dekhe Zara” is already posted. And I purposely overlooked the “disco 84” song as the music was not by. Laxmikant Pyarelal. And do you remember his dances with Govinda in “marte dam Tak”, with Mithun in “dance dance” etc?
