11/10/2020 – 78th Birthday of Amitabh Bachchan
———————————————————————-
A few days ago I saw this whatapp forward video, where a few Africans were singing this hindi song “rote rote hansnaa seekho hanste hanste rona”. This song is a known song, often heard on radio, but not recently seen or heard.
I knew it was a song sung on screen by Amitabh Bachchan. I checked the blog, to find it was not posted. This is a well-known song from 1983 film “Andhaa Kanoon”, where Amitabh Bachchan’s role was supposedly a guest appearance. Getting the lyrics of this song was a breeze, as I knew the lyrics and lines of stanza’s.
This song is a multiple version song with Kishore Kumar happy version, Kishore Kumar sad version and Baby Rajeshwari sad version. I was not able to find the audio/video of sad version by Baby Rejeshwari. Music and lyrics are Laxmikant-Pyarelal and Anand Bakshi, respectively.
Trivia about the film:
1.This film was a remake of the hit Tamil movie “Sattam Oru Iruttarai” (1981) starring Vijayakanth. The Tamil film was also remade in Telugu as “Chattaniki Kallu Levu” (1981), in Malayalam as “Maattuvin Chattangale” (1982) and in Kannada as “Nyaya Ellide” (1982). It was also remade in Tamil with the same title in 2012.
2.Rajinikanth made his Hindi film debut in this film.
3.The villains in this film, played by Prem Chopra, Danny Denzongpa and Pran, were named Amar, Akbar and Anthony after the film “Amar Akbar Anthony” (1977).
4.Amitabh Bachchan’s character in this film was named after the poet and lyricist Jan Nisar Akhtar.
5.Amitabh Bachchan had signed this film for a guest appearance. However, as the film’s shooting progressed his role was increased till it became an important supporting role.

That’s a typical of Amitabh Bachchan guest appearance where he is getting to sing the title song as well as a multipurpose song. It is not clear why his character in the movie was named after Jan Nisar Akhtar.
There are many names to given to Amitabh, like Big B, Shehenshah, Angry young man and star of the millennium. Big B would be the based on this stature of being a superlative performer and his authoritative voice plus the physical presence of screen. Shehenshah, is the title of 1988 film directed by Tinnu Anand, whose story is credited to Jaya Bachchan. The angry young man was the creation of Saim-Javed duo of script writers. Star of the millennium is a bit tricky, as millennium is period of thousand years. So starting in 1969, he has less than 30 odd years of stardom in the millennia of 1000-2000 and next millennia is now 20 years old. So technically this superstar is riding in a millennia to the next. Not that it matters to me as such, but things like titles also need to be logical. However unfashionable it might be.
Amitabh Bachchan is singing this song to stop his daughter from crying. His wife is played by Madhavi, who is also present in the song. Judging from the sad version, tragedy strikes the happy family, so this song is likely in flashback.

Rote rote
hansnaa seekho
hanste hanste ronaa aa
rote rote
hansnaa seekho
hanste hanste ronaa aa
jitni chaabhi bhari raam ne
utna chale khilaunaa
rote rote
hansnaa seekho
hanste hanste ronaa aa
jitni chaabhi bhari raam ne
arrey utna chale khilaunaa
rote rote
hansnaa seekho
hanste hanste ronaa aa
ham do ek hamaari
pyaari pyaari muniyaa hai
bas yahi chhoti si
apni saari duniyaa hai ae
ham do ek hamaari
pyaari pyaari muniyaa hai
bas yahi chhoti si
apni saari duniyaa hai
khushiyon se aabaad hai
apne ghar ka konaa konaa
rote rote
hansnaa seekho
hanste hanste ronaa aa
jitni chaabhi bhari raam ne
arrey utna chale khilaunaa
rote rote
hansnaa seekho
hanste hanste ronaa aa
badi badi khushiyaan hain
chhoti chhoti baton mein
badi badi khushiyaan hain
chhoti chhoti baaton mein
nanhe munne taare jaise
lambi raaton mein
badi badi khushiyaan hain
chhoti chhoti baaton mein
aisa sundar hai ye jeewan
jaise koyi sapan salonaa
rote rote
hansnaa seekho
hanste hanste ronaa aa
jitni chaabhi bhari raam ne
arrey utna chale khilaunaa
rote rote
hansnaa seekho
hanste hanste ronaa aa
mausam badle to
mat darr jaanaa
gudiyaa raani ee
mausam badle to
mat darr jaanaa
gudiyaa raani
saawan mein bijli chamkegi
barsegaa paani
dharti ambar bheeg jaayen
nainon ko nahin bhigonaa
rote rote
hansnaa seekho
hanste hanste ronaa aa
jitni chaabhi bhari raam ne
utna chale khilaunaa
rote rote
hansnaa seekho
hanste hanste ronaa aa
rote rote
rote rote
hansnaa seekho
hansnaa seekho
hanste hanste ae
ronaa aa
rote rote
hansnaa seekho
hanste hanste ae
ronaa aa

Hullo Nahmji
This is a song that happens when Amitabh is relating his life story to Rajnikant.
And yes, this was a guest appearance that just got stretched.
Similarly, in Geraftaar, Amitabh Bachchan had a long special appearance and Rajnikant a long guest appearance. Kamal Hassan was the main lead.

That the case with superstars usually. I saw the title song also yesterday. What could be locations, is it Chennai, or vishakhapatnam, the beach locations in that song ?
