Today 9th January’2022 is eighty-eighth birth anniversary of singer Mahendra Kapoor.
He was born on 9th January’1934 and passed away on 27th September’2008.
We remember him on this occasion and pay our tributes by listening to a song sung by him here on this blog. I am a big fan, if not a great fan, of Mahendra Kapoor songs.
These include patriotic songs and songs from other genres too.
After getting associated with this blog I have tried to bring many of his songs which so far are not posted on the blog.
Today’s song is one such song which I have noted long time back or almost nine years back.
This song is from the movie ‘Santosh-1989’.
One song from this movie has already been posted on the blog.
‘Santosh-1989’ was an ‘East-n-West Movies’ presentation. It was produced and directed by Balbir Wadhawan.
Hansraj Wadhawan was the production controller of this movie. It had Manoj Kumar, Rakhee, Hema Malini, Shatrughan Sinha, Prem Chopra, Nirupa Roy, Kamini Kaushal, Amjad Khan, Madan Puri, Sarika, Abhi Bhattacharya, Krishna Dhawan, Pinchoo Kapoor, Om Shivpuri, Praveen Kumar, and others.
Story of ‘Santosh-1989’ was written by Kaushal Bharti. Editing of this movie was done by V.V. Kamat (assisted by Ashok Naik).
Cinematography was done by Radian Kinagi.
This movie had six songs. Lyrics for the songs of this movie were written by Santosh Anand (five songs) and Manoj Kumar (one song). Music was composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal.
It was passed by Censor board on 28.02.1989.

Cold-hearted and manipulative Kamla has fallen in love with a poor man and marries him and has a child named Santosh. She soon realizes that life is not fun living in poverty, and abandons her child and husband, and returns back to her father and his wealth. She re-marries millionaire Kailashpathi, and has a child named Kundan from him. Years pass by, Kundan and Santosh have both grown up. Kundan is the owner of the mill with his mom, while Santosh is a struggling mill worker, and a union worker. A confrontation ensues between the mill and the workers, and Kamla is able to negotiate a settlement and get the workers back to work but fails to keep the promise. Santosh opposes this, and she sets her goons and Kundan against him. Santosh is abducted and held prisoner by Kamla and Kundan, and the only way he can be released is when he compromises with them.
Today’s song is sung by Mahendra Kapoor. It is lip-synced by Manoj Kumar. Also seen in the picturization of this song is Herma Malini.
Lyrics are by Santosh Anand and music was composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal.
Listening to today’s song may remind some, the well song ‘aur nahin bas aur nahin, gham ke pyaale aur nahin’ from ‘Roti, Kapada Aur Makaan-1974’. I like this song and today’ song very much.
