Blog Day :

5044 Post No. : 16955

Today’s song is from the ‘1956’ movie ‘Sailaab’.

This movie is new to me except for its song Hai ye duniya kaun si ae dil mujhe kyaa ho gayaa , a song that I have listened to innumerable times from my ‘cassette collection years’. This song must be a well-known song from this movie and this was also posted on the blog long back on 21.10.2009.

“Sailaab-1956” was directed by Guru Dutt for ‘Emar Films, Bombay’. It was produced by Mukul Roy.

It had Geeta Bali, Abhi Bhattacharya, Bipin Gupta, Ram Singh, Smruti Biswas, Helen, Sulochana Devi, Moni Chatterjee, Rashid, Uma Devi, Agha Mirza, Nazeer Kashmiri, Krishnakant, and others.

Johny Walker had a guest appearance in this movie.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 30.01.1956.

Our in-house encyclopedia Shri Arunkumar ji has given a brief account of this movie while presenting the next song from this movie on the blog on 30.01.2017. I am reproducing the text from his post below.

Gautam (Abhi Bhattacharya), a rich young man goes to Assam to visit his father’s tea plantation. The plane in which Gautam is travelling is forced to make an emergency landing due to bad weather. Gautam gets hurt and suffers from amnesia. He falls in love with a young woman Kanchan (Geeta Bali) who responds to him even though she is part of a religious community that doesn’t allow its members to marry. Gautam’s father takes him back to Calcutta. Gautam’s mother dies and the shock of her death brings back Gautam’s memory. But as his memory returns he forgets Kanchan. Kanchan comes to Calcutta in search of Gautam and sees that he fails to recognize her. She returns to her community deciding to renounce the world. In time Gautam is able to recollect his association with her and he goes after her to Assam. The lovers are reunited.

In the above post with the song ‘aa gayi aa gayi aa gayi re’, Shri Arunkumar ji also discussed the producer and music director of this movie . Mukul Roy who was singer Geeta Dutt’s elder brother. Arunkumar ji has also shared other valuable information about the sister of Geeta Dutt i.e. Laxmi Roy who had sung a song in this movie.

This movie had nine songs which were composed to music by Mukul Roy who was also the producer of this movie. The task of lyrics writing for these nine songs was shared by Majrooh Sultanpuri (four songs), Shailendra( two songs), Madhukar Rajasthani(one song) and Hasrat Jaipuri (two songs).

Here is the list of songs of this movie.

SNo Song Title Lyricist Singer/s Posted On
01 Ye rut, ye raat jawaan, bekal dil ke armaan Shailendra Geeta Dutt
02 Tan pe rang sakhi, man mein rang sakhi Majrooh Sultanpuri Geeta Dutt, chorus
03 Baje dil ki taar, kare ye pukaar Hasrat Jaipuri Laxmi Roy
04 Hai ye duniya kaun si ae dil mujhe kyaa ho gayaa Majrooh Sultanpuri Hemant Kumar 21.10.2009
05 Jiyaraa baat nahin mane kisi ki Hasrat Jaipuri Geeta Dutt
06 Chaand ke aansoo shabnam ban ke … Madhukar Rajasthani Geeta Dutt
07 Aa gayi, aa gayi, aa gayi re, raat rang bhar aa gayi Shailendra Geeta Dutt 30.01.2017

09 Hai ye duniya kaun si ae dil mujhe kyaa ho gayaa Majrooh Sultanpuri Geeta Dutt 21.10.2009

(HFGK Vol-III (1951-1960) in its footnote of the above movie-page noted that except song number 1 and 7, all other songs of this movie were recorded in February and April 1954. Though, this movie was passed by the Censor Board in 1956.

Song number 9 seems to be added later to this movie.

As per director Ravindra Dave the direction of the first four reels of this movie was done by him.)

Today we are going to listen to the third song from this movie which is sung by Geeta Dutt. Only the audio of this song is available. I guess this song must be a club-dance song.

Let us now listen to today’s song.

Song-Ye rut ye raat jawaan bekal dil ke armaan (Sailaab)(1956) Singer-Geeta Dutt, Lyrics-Shailendra, MD-Mukul Roy

Lyrics

ye rut ye raat jawaan
bekal dil ke armaan
aise mein tu kahaan
mere dilbar aa
mere dil mein samaa
ye rut ye raat jawaan
bekal dil ke armaan
aise mein tu kahaan
mere dilbar aa
mere dil mein samaa
aa ke mastiyon mein doobaa
hai jahaan
haay ae

chhup chhupke milne
milaane ke din
chhup chhupke milne
milaane ke din
aankhon se nindiya
churaane ke din
ye ae
aankhon se nindiya
churaane ke din
ye gori gori ratiyaan
tujhe rahi bulaa
ho o gori gori ratiyaan
tujhe rahi bulaa
aa ke mastiyon mein doobaa
hai jahaan
haay ae
ye rut ye raat jawaan
bekal dil ke armaan
aise mein tu kahaan
mere dilbar…

jee ye chaahe ke ye
shamaa bujhaa do o
jee ye chaahe ke ye
shamaa bujhaa do
chaand aur taaron ko
parde mein chhupaa do
main chaand aur taaron ko
parde mein chhupaa doon
andhere mein tu
apni raah bhool ke naa jaa
ho o andhere mein tu
apni raah bhool ke naa jaa
aa ke mastiyon mein doobaa
hai jahaan
haay ae
ye rut ye raat jawaan
bekal dil ke armaan
aise mein tu kahaan
mere dilbar aa
mere dil mein samaa
aa ke mastiyon mein doobaa
hai jahaan
haay ae
