(A tribute to Vijay Arora)

Today we pay our tributes to Vijay Arora, a well-known actor from the seventies. His Movies and the memories related to his movies are part of our, ‘the fans of seventies’, growing years and nostalgia of the ‘seventies’.

He was the part of many moviesof 1970s and he had a ‘special place’ in the hearts of ‘movie watchers’ of that period.

The very first movie name that comes to mind associated with his name is definitely ‘Yaadon Ki Baaraat-1973’ (many people like me must have the same first memory o him I think). Then there were movies like ‘Roti-1974’ wherein I liked his role very much and have never forgotten that. Thereafter also I must have watched many movies where he was a part of that movie but have forgotten now. I watched ‘Dil Aur Deewaar-1978’ recently four-five years back on internet. Then I also remember to have watched his ‘Safed Haathhi-1978’, ‘Sargam’, ‘Phagun’, ‘Ye Toh Kamaal Ho Gaya’, ‘Souten’, ‘Bewafaai’, ‘Awaam’, ‘100 Days’ etc.

And I would like to mentions some songs of him which I will always remember, even though I have not watched the movies the songs are from, that are ‘ik ritu aaye ik ritu jaaye’ (Gautam Govinda-1979), ‘maujon ki doli chali re’ (Jeewan Jyoti-1976). Then there are few songs from ‘Ek Mutthhi Aasmaan’ and ‘Rakhi Aur Hathkadi’, the movies which I have not watched yet.

I would like to repeat what I had earlier mentioned for Navin Nishchol in my earlier post on the blog.

“There may not be many of his movies that I have watched but songs from his movie and his name and fame has always been there in the background of my childhood years and years when I was growing.”

After films, it was his roles in TV serials like ‘Vikram Aur Betaaal’, ‘Bharat Ek Khoj’ and ‘Ramayana’. His role of Meghnad in ‘Ramayana’ is what most people now remember him as. But for people like many his memories from the movies are indelible.

Vijay Arora was born on 27th December’1944 and he passed away on 02nd February’ 2007.

He made his debut in film in 1972 in the movie ‘Zaroorat’. His last appearance in the movies was in ‘Indian Babu’ in 2003.

He married a Parsi girl Dilber and they have a son Farhad.

Other than Hindi films Vijay Arora also acted in Gujarati Films.

He was suffering from some stomach ailment or terminal illness which had taken his life.

Here I would like to mention what he said to Tabassum when she met him in his last day (Ref- episode of Tabassum Talkies dtd.12.11.2018.

“Ye to mujhe pataa hai ke zindagi sazaa, lekin kis jurm ki, ye mujhe pataa nahin”

What Tabassum also mentioned in her episode is that ‘ wo zindagi bhar torture hote rahen, pehle jahaani taur pe aur baad mein jismaani taur pe’ …

Well as a tribute to Vijay Arora on his Remembrance Day today we will enjoy a song from his movie ‘Insaaf-1973’.

This seems to be a forgotten movie as its video seems to be not available on internet though video of a couple of songs is available.

“Insaaf-1973” was directed by Subba Rao for ‘Venus Pictures, Madras’.

It had Pran, Waheeda Rehman, Tanuja, Vijay Arora, Ravindra Kapoor, Meena T., Madhukar, Swaraj Kumar, Bihari, Prem Kumar, Pandit Puranik, Anand, Shekhar, Pratibha and others.

Manmohan Krishna, Aruna Irani, Madhumati and Rajpal had a special appearance in this movie.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 17.12.1973.

“Insaaf-1973” has five songs written by Anand Bakshi and composed to music by Laxmikant-Pyarelal.

Here is the detail of songs of this movie :-

SNo Song Title Singer/s
01 Tu kathputli naach (in two parts) Asha Bhonsle
02 Mem shaab, shaab-shaab, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar
03 Mera naam main, tera naam tu Asha Bhonsle, Shailendra Singh
04 Rang bhari raatein, ye pyaar bhari baatein Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar
05 Maine pyaar kiyaa main pachhtaayi Lata Mangeshkar

Today’s song is a ‘rocking-romantic duet’ song picturised on Vijay Arora and Tanuja. It is sung by Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar.
It is a nice song to listen and watch too. Both Vijay Arora and Tanuja have performed well and they look ‘cute romantic couple’ in this song.

With this song this movie ‘Insaaf-1973’ makes its debut on the blog and joins the ‘Insaaf-1946’, ‘Insaaf-1956’, ‘Insaaf-1966’, and ‘Insaaf-1987’.

Incidentally I came across a video on ‘YouTube’ about the films made on the title ‘Insaaf’. According to this video this title has been used in Hindi Movies as many as nine times. As per the video the other time it was used was in ‘1925’, ‘1937’, ‘1997’ and ‘2004’. I have checked in HFGK for the year ‘1937’, and ‘1997’ and checked on internet for the ‘2004’ movie. I cannot say about the year ‘1925’ which needs to be confirmed.

Let us welcome ‘Insaaf-1973’ on the blog today.

Over to the song featuring Vijay Arora and Tanuja now…

Lyrics

rang bhari raatein
ye pyaar bhari shaamein
ham kaise guzaarenge ae
yaad tujhe kar ke
bas aahen bhar bhar ke
naam tera pukaarenge ae ae ae
dil liyaa
hamne dil diyaa aa
dil diya
hamne dil liyaa
dil liyaa
hamne dil diyaa aa aa
dil diya
hamne dil liyaa aa
rang bhari raatein
ye pyaar bhari shaamein
ham kaise guzaarenge ae
yaad tujhe kar ke
bas aahen bhar bhar ke
naam tera pukaarenge ae ae ae
dil liyaa
hamne dil diyaa aa
dil diya
hamne dil liyaa
dil liyaa
hamne dil diyaa aa aa
dil diya
hamne dil liyaa aa

dekho
hamen aate dekh kar
phool kehte hain
wo aa rahe hain
dekho
hamen aate dekh kar
phool kehte hain
wo aa rahe hain
ye do deewaane wahi hain jo
aag gulshan mein bhadkaa rahe hain
kali kali mahak gayi
gali gali bahak gayi
dil liyaa
hamne dil diyaa aa
dil diya
hamne dil liyaa aa
dil liyaa
hamne dil diyaa aa
dil diya
hamne dil liyaa aa

kaisaa nashaa hai ye
jhoom kar
zindagi dagmagaane lagi hai
kaisaa nashaa hai ye
jhoom kar
zindagi dagmagaane lagi hai
taubaa meri
har cheez par
ek masti si chhaane lagi hai
bikhar gaya yahaan wahaan
jawaan mohabbat ka samaa
dil liyaa
hamne dil diyaa aa
dil diya
hamne dil liyaa aa

dil liyaa
hamne dil diyaa aa
dil diya
hamne dil liyaa aa

tum pe lutaa denge har khushi
hamne aisaa iraadaa kiyaa hai ae
tumne iraadaa kiyaa hai aur
hamne ye waadaa kiyaa hai

isi bahaane se kahen
chalo zamaane se kahen
dil liyaa
hamne dil diyaa aa
dil diya
hamne dil liyaa aa

rang bhari raatein
ye pyaar bhari shaamein
ham kaise guzaarenge ae
yaad tujhe kar ke
bas aahen bhar bhar ke
naam tera pukaarenge ae

dil liyaa
hamne dil diyaa aa
dil diya
hamne dil liyaa
dil liyaa
