This song is the song post number 17600 of the blog

What do people do when new year begins ? They make new year resolutions. 🙂
When the year 2023 began, we too made some new year resolutions for the blog. 🙂
Unlike the fate of most such resolutions, we have managed to stick to our new year resolutions thus far.
Following were these resolutions:-
(1) Reach one Blog century every month.
(2) Post at least 100 songs every calendar month.
We are into the third month of the year 2023. We achieved these targets in January and february of the year:-.
Month | Date on which blog century was reached | Number of posts in the month |
---|---|---|
January 2023 | 28 January 2023 | 106 |
February 2023 | 25 February 2023 | 100 |
We are now onto march 2023. When the previous day ended, the song count was 17597. So today on 28 march 2023, three songs were required to be posted to reach the song post mark of 17600 .
As is my wont these days, I was not sure till the last moment what song to be used as the century song for the blog. For quite some time, I considered using 100th song post of Aarzoo Lucknowi as the blog century post. But I could not locate a suitable song befitting the occasion. Nevertheless, I decided that the Aarzoo Lucknowi century song would be one of the three songs to be covered on the day.
That gave me another idea. Aarzoo Lucknowi post is a century post. The blog century post is a century post. The song between these songs should be a century post as well. I had remembered that the tally for songs from the year 1970 was very close to 400 marks. I hoped that the figure had not touched 400. I checked up and I was relieved to know that figure was at 399. Just what the doctor ordered. 🙂
But then all of a sudden I found a contribution in my e mail. It was a post for the remembrance anniversary that fell today itself. But the song was from some other year. So I asked the contributor (our ever enthusiastic contributor Avinash Scrapwala) to replace the song with a song from 1970. He promptly changed the writeup and the song. So the plan of posting three century posts stayed on track. 🙂
With song posts number 17598 and 17599 out of the way, it is time for the song post number 17600. What song to post ?
I recalled that Prakashchandra had recently sent the lyrics of a song. While most of his contributions are Blog Ten Year Challenge contributions these days, he had sent this song to be used at a suitable occasion. He had described this song as a rare song. If he considers a song as rare then the song must be rare indeed. And that is what we often look for in a blog century post.
In addition to rarity, the song should be a nice song to listen to. This is a song that few people may have heard before, because this song is meant to be used in a movie that did not even get made and was shelved. But not before a few songs meant for the movie were recorded !
According to HFGK, this song is from a shelved movie called ‘Baghaawat’ (1964). It was meant to be a production of Friends Film Corporation, Bombay. Three songs from this movie were recorded according to HFGK.
The song is sung by Suman Kalyanpur and female chorus. Music director is Sardar Singh. He is an unknown entity, but we do have one song composition from him in the blog – “Khud b Khud Ishq Ka Izhaar Hua Jaata Hai“, a song from the 1966 film ‘Professor Aur Jaadugar’. It is the lyricist who is totally unknown. He is called Suroor Lucknowi. Unlike Aarzoo Lucknowi, whose 100th song as a lyricist was covered earlier in the day, this lyricist Suroor Lucknowi seemingly vanished out in thin air after penning this song. This is how rare and special this song is.
Here is this special song from a shelved and therefore unreleased movie called ‘Baghaawat’ (1964). The song is sung by Suman Kalyanpur and chorus. Suroor Lucknowi is the lyricist. Sardar Singh is the music composer. All three S !
I take this opportunity to thank one and all for their continued support and encouragement. That support and encouragement is the fuel that has kept this musical bandwagon going for more than 14 years. Here is hoping that we will continue to see many more blog centuries and other milestones as we keep exploring as yet unexplored songs. There is little doubt in our mind that this musical journey is going to be as enjoyable as it has so far been.

Lyrics (Provided by Prakashchandra)
chhaayee huyi bahaarein
(aa haaa)
kyun geet gaa rahein hain
(o ho)
phoolon ki ye kataarein
kyun muskura raheen hain
haan haan tera dil jo le gayaa hai
us ko bula rahee hain
haan haan tera dil jo le gayaa hai
ussko bulaa rahee hain
chhaayee huyi bahaarein aen aen
kaisa thha woh deewaana
khud se hua begaana aa
khud se hua begaana
miltey hi haaye nazrein
dil ho gaya nishaana
dil ho gaya nishaana
keh do na ab hamein aen woh
nazron ke teer maarey
nazron ke teer maarey ae
nazron ke teer maarey
chhaayee huyi baharein aen
kaliyon ki bezubaani ee
meri haseen jawaani
kehti hai aaj dil se
dohraao wo kahaani ee ee
dohraao wo kahaani
sun ke jisey sajanwa
mujhe door se pukaarey
chhaayee huyi baharein aen ae ae ae
baaton mein us ki aisaa
jaadoo bhara hua hai ae
jaadoo bhara huaa hai
boloongi ab na us se
keh doongi bewafaa hai ae
keh doongi bewafaa hai
roothhi huyi hai gori
chal hum usey pukaarein
roothhi huyi hai goree
chal hum usey pukaarein
chhaayee huyi baharein
(aa haaa)
kyon geet gaa raheen hain
(o ho)
phoolon ki ye kataarein
kyun muskuraa raheen hain
haan haan tera dil jo le gayaa hai
usko bulaa rahe hain
chhaayee huyi baharein aen aen aen aen ae ae

There is a little story regarding the uploading of this song :
As per the Radio Vividh Bharthi Afternoon Program, Sadabahar Naghme dated 08.03.2020 Radio Vividh Bharthi while celebrating Sahir Ludhianvi`s birthday, broadcast this rare Suman Kalyanpur sung song. I guess VBS people thought this song as one of Sahir Ludhianvi`s creations. Then I have saved the video link, but all of a sudden once that video link of VBS programme disappeared.
But recently Zaif Bro (aka Zafar Bhai) uploaded One Mahendra Kapoor song (“Tere watan ko aaj tera intezaar hai” written by Lyricist Sahir Bhopali) from this film, then I requested him to upload this Suman Kalyanpur song, Zafar Bhai saab ne 2 minute mein is gaane ko upload kiye. Tab mujhe pataa chalaa ki how vividh bharti people got confused regarding lyricists of this film i.e., Sahir Ludhianvi/Suroor Lucknowi/Sahir Bhopali name confusion.
By reading Sahir Bhopali`s name, Radio people attributed this Suman Kalyanpur`s song as one of Sahir Ludhianvi`s creations……
Thanks Zaif Bro./Zafar Bhai for uploading this song…….
