Composer – Meena Mangeshkar

In this post we get introduced to a movie from the ‘seventies’ where the music for the movie was composed by none other than Meena Mangeshkar.
I guess that this is the only Hindi movie where Meena Mangeshkar has composed the music for.

This movie is ‘Qaanoon Ka Shikaar-1978’.

I think this was an obscure and forgotten movie of its time. I do not remember to have read earlier about this movie (other than in HFGK) and listen to any of its songs earlier.

“Qaanoon Ka Shikaar-1978” was directed by Shankar Kinagi for ‘Shansad Films, Bombay’.

It was produced by Shankar Kinagi and Sadique Al Edroos.

It had Kabir Bedi, Neelam Mehra, Vikram Gokhale, Vrushali, Amrut Lakhanpal, Bipin Gupta, Sudha Chopra, Sudhir Dalvi, Chandrakant Gokhale, Tun Tun, Neelu Phoole, Prem Kumar, Shankar Bhake, Manmauji and others.

Rehman, Murad and Raza Murad had guest appearance in this movie, whereas, Aruna Irani, Jayshree T., Lakshamichhaya, and Helen had special appearance in this movie.

Story of this movie was written by Shankar and Sadique. Screenplay was written by D.N. Mukherjee and Shripad Naik.
Dialogues of this movie were written by Bhushan Banmali and Akhtar Effendi.

B. Prasad had done the editing of this movie.

This movie was certified with ‘restricted viewing certificate’ i.e. ‘A’ certificate by the Censor Board and it was passed by it on 30.11.1978.

HFGK Vol-V (1971-1980) mentions in the foot note on this movie page that this movie was titled as ‘Asambhav’ earlier and the EP/SP records of songs of this movie were also released under the same title.

“Qaanoon Ka Shikaar-1978” has five songs. Three were written by Yogesh and one song each were written by Abhilash and Kaisar Ratnagirvi.

Here are the details of the songs of this movie:-

SNo. Song Title Lyricist Singer/s
01 Kya haseen shaam hai , husn hai jaam hai Abhilash Asha Bhonsle
02 Aaj ka yah milan to madhur hai Yogesh Usha Mangeshkar
03 Haa haa haa hanste hi rehnaa mere yaar Yogesh Asha Bhonsle, chorus
04 Jaane kahaan de ke dagaa gayaa moraa sainyya Yogesh Lata Mangeshkar
05 Dekhnaa main ye kaam kar loongaa Kaiser Ratnagirvi Usha Mangeshkar, Aziz Nazaan, chorus

Today we present the first song from this movie on the blog. This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle.

As per the partial video of this song, the song is is picturised on Jayshree T., who is lip syncing in the voice of Asha Bhonsle and performing a cabarat dance.

Also seen in the picturisation of this song are Raza Murad, Kabir Bedi and Vikram Gokhale and others.

Some part videos of this movie are also available on the internet, however I could not find the full movie link or videos of individual full songs on the internet.

Let us now listen to the today’s song of which the lyrics are written by Abhilash and music is composed by Meena Mangeshkar.

With this song, this movie “Qaanoon Ka Shikaar-1978” makes its debut on the blog and Meena Mangeshkar also makes her debut on the blog today as a music director.

Song-Kya haseen shaam hai (Qaanoon Ka Shikaar)(1978) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Abhilash, MD-Meena Mangeshkar

Lyrics

kya haseen shaam hai
husn hai jaam hai
meri aankhon se do ghoont pee le ae
mehki zulfon ke saaye mein ae
aa aa
jee le
kya haseen shaam hai

bhool kar
ye jahaan
aaj pee
is qadar
hosh dhhoondhhe tujhe
umrbhar
hamsafar
jhoom kar muskuraa aa
ha ha ha ha
laa laa laa laa laa laa
laa laa laa laa laa laa
kya haseen shaam hai

thhaam loon
main tujhe
meri baahon mein aa
khwaab ban ke meri ee
in nigaahon mein aa
dil ki raahon mein aa aa aa aa
laa laa laa laa laa laa laa
laa laa laa
laa laa laa laa laa laa
kya haseen shaam hai
husn hai jaam hai ae ae
meri aankhon se do ghoont pee le ae
mehki zulfon ke saaye mein ae
aa aa
jee le
kya haseen shaam hai

Its a good composition by Meena Mangeshkar. However, tune has RD’s flavour. Asha sang very well.

Yes indeed. The music is fully inspired by R D Burman.
