Hullo Atuldom

A few songs have been playing in my head over the last few days. These are accompanied by random thoughts too. Most songs match the thoughts.
I found an old snap of me & my brother and I thought of zindagi ek safar hai suhaana. Then I was going through some more photos and saw snaps of picnics that I had enjoyed with my family, friends, schoolmates & collegemates. That put me on to ban ke panchhi gaaye pyaar ka taraana & main chali main chali dekho pyaar ki gali.

Among all these I don’t know what landed me on teri ankhiyon mein jeena hamen marna. But it definitely sent me thinking about how in my student days I was thinking about what activity I will be doing next, after the last day of exam.

1988 was a different year in my life. My activity for post my last day of exam was decided in December of 1987. Those 2 were the years, that charted out the rest of my life. Can’t imagine that it is 35 years since.

When I decided to let someone into my life. Who brought a lot of others into my orbit. And then, eventually two more- no three more- entered my life. My circle of responsibilities, duties went a sea change. And the person who joined me in 1987/88 has been steadfast with me throughout.

We have had our share of bickering, roothhna manana, fun etc. We have adapted & adopted each others likes and dislikes. We have not yet gone past the stage of surprising each other. I am pampered no end. Ab aage aur kya likhoon (what more do I write).

No mushy mushy songs like tum aa gaye ho noor aa gaya hai nor complete surrender as in tumhi mere mandir tumhi meri pooja tumhi devta ho. It has been more like tum saath ho jab apne.

Today was the date when the fact that I could hum songs broke on my friend-for-life, as Peevesie has related in this post ghazab ka hai din socho zara. It is just that the number of languages that I hum in has increased, including Malayalam & Tamil in my list of songs. But one thing is for sure, I didn’t give myself half-a-chance, of lasting this long in this journey & it is mostly been successful because of my husband- my friend for all times. I hope I have been good to him.

I think there is a song in the 1987 released “Sansar” which is ideal for this post. It shows the traditional way in which marriages were arranged, including the girl singing to impress the to-be groom’s family. (As I have said before I didn’t give that test, I skipped the question😉).

“Sansar” & it’s Tamil original (Samsaaram Adhu Minsaaram translating to *wife is like electricity*) are movies that I like to see, albeit in parts. Some parts make us feel good and some make us cringe, but overall an entertainer. “SANSAR'” was produced by A. Purnachandra Rao, directed by T. Rama Rao and the story (which was in keeping with those times) was written by Meenakshisundaram Ramaswamy Viswanathan a.k.a Visu.

A few words about Visu. He was a writer, director, actor (who was seen on stage, television & films) plus a talk-show host with an ounce of wit in whatever he spoke. He was first a writer and became an actor much later. He was majorly associated with Tamil cinema. His films spoke of keeping the family together with lots of love and camaraderie.

Coming back to ‘Sansar’. It had Rekha, Anupam Kher, (yes, they were the two most important characters in the film) Raj Babbar, Aruna Irani, Seema Deo, Ajinkya Deo, Harish, Archana Joglekar, Shekhar Suman, Shafi Inaamdar, Chandrashekhar, Priyanka, Dinesh Hingoo etc I the cast. Anupam Kher was the head of the family and Rekha the eldest bahu of the family around whom the household revolves.

Today’s song is sung by Anuradha Paudwal, written by Anand Bakshi, music directors were Laxmi-Pyare and on-screen the song starts with Archana Joglekar singing for Shekhar Suman followed by Rekha going back to her own pre-wedding time and ends with Seema Deo thinking of when she was a young girl. The song runs in the family, family heirloom if I may say so. 😃.
