‘Paapa Kahte Hain’ (1996) was produced by Plus Films (of Mahesh Bhatt and Amit Khanna) and was directed by Mahesh Bhatt. The cast included Jugal Hansraj, Mayuri Kango, Anupam Kher, Tiku Talsania, Navni Parihar, Alok Nath, Reema Lagoo, Suhas Joshi, Soni Razdan, Javed Khan, Dinesh Hingoo, Abhimanyu Singh, Sujata Kango, Johny Bakshi etc. The film was planned as a tele-film. However, when the main cast was finalised, it was decided to make it a feature film with Jugal Hansraj and Mayuri Kango in the lead roles. While Jugal Hansraj had already worked in a lead role in ‘Aa Gale Lag Jaa’ (1994), for Mayuri Kango, it was her first film in the lead role and her mother, Sujata Kango also acted in this film.

Today’s song is from a semi Mythological film, Maya Bazar-1949.
I said ” Semi Mythological” film and there is a reason for it. Both Ramayan and Mahabharat are more than 5000 year old. Since generations,Indians have been infatuated with the various stories from these sacred books. Actually, Mahabharat is 4 times bigger than Ramayan. Ramayan contains stories of Loyalty, Obedience, righteous behaviour. Ideal Human Qualities, war against evil, Ideal democracy and good Just Governance. In short-everything that is ideal and good.

Hullo Atuldom
6th February 2022 followers of Indian music, across the genres of Bhav-geet, Film Sangeet, Bhajans and any other that we can think of, lost the most accomplished, sought after, loved (& any other add-ons that we know of) singer. She went by the name Lata Mangeshkar fondly addressed as Lata Didi by the multitude of her followers. She was the go-to voice (a modern day term for first choice) of all music composers for their debut films – remember ‘ghar aaja ghir aayi’ RD Burman, ‘Parasmani’ & its songs which was the first released film of Laxmi- Pyare. Even Madan Mohan is said to have approached Lata Mangeshkar to sing for his debut film ‘Aankhen’ but could get her into the recording room only for his next ‘ Adaa’ which released in 1951.

This was S Shankar’s first Hindi film as a director.

Before I discuss the film, it is necessary to dwell upon as to why Amitabh Bachchan felt setting up a film production and distribution company, how the Company fared and how the Company went into near bankruptcy. Names of producer, director, actors are not known. The number of songs in this movie is not known though it is known that the movie had at least four songs in it.
