It is a well known fact among regulars of this blog that the 5000th song of this song was the all time iconic qawwaali song Hamen to loot liya mil ke husn waalon ne from a B grade movie called “al Hilaal”(1958). This iconic qawwaali single handedly ensured that the name of “Al Hilal”(1958), instead of getting forgotten, would become immortal, even though the movie itself was nothing extraordinary..
The writeup of this 5000th song was a very long and elaborate affair as it was written by three regulars of the blog, each capable of writing very long articles. 🙂 So much so that some regulars confessed that they could not go through the whole article and gave up midway. 🙂 According to wordpress, this article had 8102 words and it was a 43 minutes read ! 🙂
Though lots and lots of things were written in that article, but it went unnoticed by all that the 5000th song in the blog was the debut song of “Al Hilaal”(1958).
We could be excused for missing this fact because we in the blog were not yet tracking things like debut songs of movies or movies getting YIPPEED. Ideas of debut songs and YIPPEE songs would come up later.
Having covered the qawwaali from “Al Hilal”(1958), we did not bother much about the other songs of the movie, secure in the knowledge that other songs were nothing much to write home about.
Despite this negligence of our part, remaining songs of the movie continued to get covered song by song. Earlier in the month, seventh song of the movie got covered. When I checked up, I realised that the movie had eight songs i all and we had at last reached the stage when all songs of the movie could be covered in the blog !
Here are the details of the seven songs (out of 8) from “Al Hilal”(1958) that have been covered in the blog:-

The story of “Al Hilaal”(1958) was given by Sudhir jee while discussing the debut song of this movie. Here are the excerpts:-
” Al Hi-Lal is a story of good vs. evil, the power of Allah vs. the evil designs of Iblees, the devil incarnate. The story is set in an Arabic kingdom. The ruler, Kehraan (played to the hilt by Heeralal) would have his subjects worship him in place of Allah. He deals very cruelly with the followers of the faith (Islam), and punishes them either with banishment from the kingdom or making them blind, or both. Needless to say, such cruel repression would breed a revolt.
Mahipal, who is a slave in the palace, and very close to the king, is actually a believer and an inside person looking for an opportunity to foster a rebellion. Shakila is a poor knife sharpener whose objective in life is the death of Kehraan. For a major part in the film, Shakila masquerades as a boy, and only in the second half of the film she appears as a lady.
The king is blessed with a son. The soothsayers predict that he would be a believer. Kehraan is incensed by this prediction, and starts a reign of torment on his own wife and son. He tries many times to kill him, but the child is saved every time through miracles. As the story progresses, Mahipal is exposed and he escapes from the palace. The prince is banished from the castle to die in the desert. But he is rescued by Shakila, who takes him to her village. Next, the king blinds his own wife and turns her out also.
All players meet together in Shakila’s village and start planning an overthrow of Kehraan. Other events intervene and this group of rebels gets support from a Christian king of a neighboring kingdom. As the story moves towards a closure, there is an inordinately long fight sequence that takes place in the palace, wherein all the main characters are fighting free hand or with swords, with each other. The ending is as expected. Kehraan is slain by Shakila, the young prince ascends the throne and makes the necessary proclamations for setting right the wrongs done by his father, and Mahipal and Shakila live happily ever after.
Here is the eighth and final song of “Al Hilaal”(1958) to be covered in the song. This song, the rarest song from the movie, is sung by Suman Kalyanpur. I am unable to identify the lady who lip syncs this song. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify her.
Shewan Rizvi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Bulo C Rani.
With this melancholic song, all the songs of “Al Hilaal”(1958) have been covered in the blog. With this, “Al Hilaal”(1958) joins the list of movies that have been YIPPEED in the blog.
Song-Shiqwa hai na tujhse…aankhen teree sarkaar mein nazraanaa de chale (Al Hilaal)(1958) Singer-Suman Kalyanpur, Lyrics-Shewan Rizvi, MD-Bulo C Rani
Lyrics
Shiqwa hai na tujhse
na koi ee ee shikaayat a a a
aalaa
aalaa
aankhen teri sarkaar mein nazrana de chale
hum tera naam lene ka jurmaana de chale
aankhen teri sarkaar mein nazraana de chale
hum tera naam lene ka jurmana de chale
sab kuchh luta diya tere daaman ko thhaam kar
sab kuchh luta diya tere daaman ko thhaam kar
mit kar dikha diya hai tujhe tere naam par
mit kar dikha diya hai tujhe tere naam par
har dil mein har zabaan pe tera payaam ho
har dil mein har zabaan pe tera payaam ho
dekar hazaar naaara e mastaana(?) de chale
aankhen teri sarkar mein nazrana de chale
hum tera naam lene ka jurmaana de chale
