Mukesh and his Actors – 04
———————————————

What is Mukesh’s hit ratio, one may ask. Well, read on.

Continuing with the series on Mukesh’s playback for various actors, we take up the case of flamboyant actor, Feroz Khan in this post. Feroz Khan created his own inimitable style of acting and sense of aura on screen. His facial expressions, body language, mannerism etc. has earned him his own unique repute in acting.

Having made his debut in late 50’s, his initial career saw him playing second roles to major and more popular actors of his time. But all along his charisma shone along. 60’s and 70’s saw him getting lead roles and consolidate his position.
With Apradh (1972) and Dharmatma (1975), he ventured into producing and directing films in addition to acting. However, Qurbani (1980) and Janbazz (1986) saw him reach his pinnacle in acting, directing and producing. The two films with their multi-star cast and popular music created waves of popularity and are remembered till date.

In later years he made popular films like Dayavan (1988), Yalgaar (1992), Prem Aggan (1998) and Janasheen (1993). His last appearance as an actor was the film Welcome (2007), wherein he played the role of an underworld don with all his old magnetism intact.

Welcome (2007) is a favourite film of self and my daughter. Having watched it multiple times, we now watch any scene in the film at any time and have a hearty laugh.

Coming to the main subject of this post, following is the list of all songs rendered by Mukesh for Feroz Khan.

MUKESH’s playback for FEROZ KHAN
———————————

S. No Name of the song Movie (Year of release) Co-singer (if any) Composer Lyricist
1 Pyaar ka fasaana banaa le dil deewaana Teesra Kaun (1965) Lata Mangeshkar R D Burman Anand Bakshi
2 Ae dilruba kal ki baat Anjaam (1968) Suman Kalyanpur Ganesh Akhtar Romani
3 Zulfon ka rangeen saaya Anjaam (1968) Ganesh Qamar Jalalabadi
4 Jo tumko ho pasand Safar (1970) Kalyanji Anandji Indeewar
5 Darpan ko dekhaa Upaasna (1971) Kalyanji Anandji Indeewar
6 Mujhe nahin poochhni tumse Anjaan Raahein (1974) Kalyanji Anandji Indeewar
7 Kya khoob lagti ho Dharmatma (1975) Kanchan Kalyanji Anandji Indeewar
8 Tum ne kisi se kabhi pyaar kiya hai Dharmatma (1975) Kanchan Kalyanji Anandji Indeewar
9 Tu Kehta Hai Mujhko Kabeela (1976) Kishore Kumar Kalyanji Anandji Farooq Qaiser

Mere 9 songs of the duo and 8 of them well known and super-hits. Just the first line of the songs will reveal their immense popularity and apt playback of Mukesh. Though not really known as the actor’s voice, Mukesh has sung these songs will all his gusto irrespective of their genre. Thus, almost all songs that Mukesh sang for the actor remain hits and this was the marvel of Mukesh turning any song that he touched into gold irrespective of the actor or composer that he sang for.

I shall skip describing each of the songs in the above table in detail and would request readers to open the links and read the comments of the respective songs on the blog. Multiple readers have provided wonderful personal experiences and likes for these songs.

1 and 2 are well known romantic duets with Lata and Suman respectively.

Song No 3 listed above begins with

qayaamat aayegi ek roz
hum ye sunte thhe
magar huzoor to
har roz chaley aate hain

The wonderful song translations of Sudhir ji is worth reading again and again. The “zulf” songs of Mukesh is an undiscovered cache. I really don’t know when I can do justice to this topic. I also remember our Gajendra ji’s invitation to write a post for his blog on the subject.

2025?
I seriously hope so.

Moving on, Safar (1970) has a bouquet of meaningful songs. But this rendition of Mukesh has stood the test of time.
5 and 6 are unique solos with atypical subject in the songs.

7 and 8 are arguably the two most famous duets that Mukesh sang for Feroz Khan along with singer Kanchan.
The heroines on screen are the gorgeous Hema Malini and Rekha. Dharmatma (1975) was the first Indian film to be shot in Afghanistan. It was loosely based on the famed Hollywood film Godfather (1972) on which multiple movies have been made across the globe. Popular socialite and philanthropist Parmeshwar Godrej was the costume designer in the film. The headbands used by Hema Malini in the film are a treat to watch. There may be others who might have concentrated on the harmonica being played in the duet but my attention was on the headbands. 😊

Well, coming to the least known songs of the duo, I bring forth a duet with Kishore Kumar from Kabeela (1976). Our Avinash ji has written a brief bio on Feroz Khan and also given briefs on the movie when it made its debut on the blog with this post. Three songs have been covered and this will be the YIPPEE song of the film containing 4 songs. The present male-male duet is featured on Premnath and Feroz Khan with Kishore Kumar and Mukesh respectively providing the playback.

It is the last song of Mukesh’s playback for Feroz Khan to be covered on the blog as well as the last duet of Mukesh and Kishore Kumar. I have already covered the 10 songs of the two singers in this post of mine.

In my last post, I had discussed taking up Mukesh’s songs for Sanjeev Kumar. But then I drew a blank and hence came up with another actor Feroz Khan. Though it is highly unlikely that any song of Sanjeev Kumar Mukesh is remaining to be covered, I shall dwell deeper at a later date to see if I stand any chance.

The table on Feroz Khan has thrown open a rare opportunity on a very popular actor for whom Mukesh gave many a playback. Luckily for me, at least one song is available for grabs. I shall try to cover it by the end of this week. Any hint on the actor will be too obvious. So, let us wait for the weekend. 😊

“Kabeela”(1976) gets YIPPEED in the blog with this song.

haan haan kee hai
ha ha
mohabbat karne waalon
aao idhar aao
haath me lo khanjar
apna daanv tum dikhaao

are aata hoon main
haan dikhaataa hoon main
kaisa hota hai daanv
dekh lena
are sambhal ke
ae zara bach ke

aao
arre aao ispe chalke dikhaao
tab to main tumko maanoon
haan haan maanoon
zameen pe
zameen pe chalna aur baat hai
rassee pe chalo to main jaanoon
haan haan jaanoon

bete
chalne kee baaten chhodo
darne kee baaten chhodo
aaj to ispe main naachoonga
haan haan naachoonga
bapu thhode idhar udhar ho jaaoge agar
tigni ka naach main nachaaoonga
haan nachaaoonga

hey hey
hey hey

——————–
aaj tum dono shande mushtande mein se
agar ek bhi aag mein gir jaataa na
to ya to meree god soonee ho jaatee
aur yaa main vidhwa ho jaatee

kaan khol kar sun lo
agar aaj ke baad kisi ne bhi
is ?? ka naam kabeele mein lia na
to mujhse bura koi na hoga
samjhe

——————–
main kehta hoon
mujhko chadhhee hai
main kehta hoon
mujhko
haan haan mujhko

arre aaj ho gaya faislaa iska
sabko chadhee hai sabko
arre sabko chadhee hai sabko
arre sabko chadhee hai sabko

Mahesh ji,

Good job.

FK _ M is a good combination, though Rafi, and later Kishore Kumar were the main singers for him. SAFAR n DHARMATMA had all hit scores and the songs are evergreen.
