#The Decade of Fifties – 1951 – 1960 #

If we take a look at the title ‘Dashaavtaar’ and Hindi films made with this title so far, we get the following list;
1) Dashavatar – 1951
2) Dashavatar – 1976
3) Dashavatar- 2008
4) Dashavtar-2009
In the above list we have four films made with this title ‘Dashavatar’ where they have some minor differences in their spelling with additional/ deletion of an extra letter ‘a’ in the title.
In our mythology the ten avtaars of Lord Vishnu have been mentioned. Here is what our beloved in-house encyclopaedia Shree Arunkumar jee had mentioned about the ‘Ten incarnations’ or the ‘Dashaavtaars’ of Lord Vishnu in his post with a song from this movie earlier.
There are hundreds of religions in the world, but one thing is common with them. Followers of any religion are usually blind followers and do not know much about their religion. Why go far? Ask 10 Hindu persons known to you the names of the 10 Avatars of Vishnu and I can confidently say that the majority will not be able to give the correct answer. You can try this on yourself and find out if YOU can tell all the 10 Avatars in the proper serial!
The 10 Avatars in proper serials were Matsya, Koorm, Varaah, Narsimha, Waman, Parshuram, Shri Ram, Shri Krishna, Buddha and Kalki. The first of 9 avatars have taken place and only Kalki is remaining. It is said that Kalki will come on Earth, dissolve all the world and start again from the beginning. Lord Shri Krishna has explained why Vishnu had to take Avatars. He had said” यदा यदा हि धर्मस्य ग्लानिर्भवति भारत। अभ्युत्थानमधर्मस्य तदात्मानं सृजाम्यहम्” (Whenever There Is A Decline In Righteousness and An Increase In Sinfulness, O Arjun, At That Time I Manifest Myself On Earth.) This is a long ‘Shlok’ and singer Jagjit Singh has cut a record of the full shloka.
“Dashaavtaar-1951” , a mythological movie was directed by Jayant Desai for ‘J.K. Films, Bombay’. It was produced by Kikubhai Desai. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 14.08.1951. The cast of this movie had Nirupa Roy, Trilok Kapoor, Niranjan Sharma, Umakant, Vasantrao Pahalwan, Praveen Kumar, Baby Tabassum, Murad, Master Dhulia, Revashankar, Satya Narayan, Chandabai, Charubala, Neerja, Nagolkar, Pt Iqbal, and others. Actor Jeevan had made a guest appearance in this movie.
“Dashaavtaar-1951” has twelve songs in it.Lyricists for the songs in this film are Saraswati Kumar ‘Deepak’ (five songs), B.P. Bhargav (five songs) and Munshi Sagar Hussain (two songs). The singers for this movie are Geeta Dutt, Mohd Rafi, Sulochana Kadam, Asha Bhonsle, Badrinath Vyas, and A.R. Ojha.
Geet Kosh mentions in the foot note for this movie-page that one song ‘o mere maalik, bolo kab aake mujhe bachaaoge…’ was later removed from the film. This song has already been covered on this blog. We have so far covered seven songs from this movie on the blog.
Today I am presenting the eighth song from this movie which is in the voice of Geeta Dutt. Lyrics are by Saraswati Kumar Deepak and music is composed by Avinash Vyas. This song is a devotional song praising Lord Jagdeesh.
