Today we get introduced to the movie ‘Swarna Bhoomi’ from the year ‘1944’. This movie was directed by Bhalji Pendharkar for Prabhakar Pictures, Bombay. It was a social movie. The cast of this movie had Leela, Swarn Lata, Nandrekar, Chandrakant, Ashalata, Sudha Apte, Saroj Borkar, Vinay Kale, Jai Shankar, Raja Paranjape, Baby Tara and others.
Geet Kosh Vol-II (1941-1950) lists nine songs for this movie. However no information is available about the singers of these nine songs. Music composer is Pandit Tripathi, which the audio link of this song mentions as S.N. Tripathi. Lyricist for all the nine songs is mentioned as Deepak (Saraswati Kumar ‘Deepak’?).
Today I am presenting the first song from this movie ‘Swarna Bhoomi-1944’ on this blog. Singer’s name as per the audio link of this song is Leelabai which I guess might be Leela Chandragiri who married Bhalji Pendharkar the director of this movie. (Three songs sung by Leela Chandragiri have already been posted on this blog in the past).
I hope our inhouse encylopaedia Shree Arunkumar jee might be able to throw more light on this movie and its songs. I would request him to kindly enlighten us about this movie please.
