If the first part of my drunkard series, I had mentioned that lots of drunkard songs were released in 1974. 1983, a noslagia filled year for me also seems to be rich in this genre of songs.
The drunkard song that I am presenting in this post is from ‘Farishta-1983’.
“Farishta 1984” was Pran Saab’s presentation for his home production ‘Sikand Films’. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 13.10.1983. It was directed by Sunil Sikand (Pran Saab’s son), who was also the Producer and Story writer of this movie. He also co-authored the Screenplay of this movie with Tapan Chakravarty. The cast of this movie included Ashok Kumar, Kanwaljeet Singh, Master Raju, Ambika Shourie, Danny and Pran. Bharat Bhushan, Azaad and Master Rajiv Bhatia also had supportive roles in this movie. The movie introduced – Shera – a wonder dog in this movie. Smita Patil makes a special appearance in this movie.
The main crew of this movie had Sudesh Iyer as the Chief Assistant Director of this movie. David Dhawan was the editor of this movie. Gyandev Agnihotri wrote the scenario and Dialogues for this movie were written by Pradeep Roy Choudhary.
Lyrics of this movie were written by Anand Bakshi and music was composed by R.D. Burman. Kishore Kumar, Amit Kumar, Suresh Wadkar, Anuradha Paudwal and Master Vivek Bajaj gave their voices to the songs in this movie.
I have not watched this movie, but I have got the plot of this movie from various sources on internet that I present below. I have added the name of the artistes to their characters in this movie.
The story centres on a wealthy grandfather whose young grandson is kidnapped and forced into a life of crime by a ruthless gangster, exploring themes of family, redemption, and social injustice. The plot follows Rai Bahadur (Ashok Kumar), who lives luxuriously with his granddaughter Pinky (Ambika Shourie) and grandson Raju (Raju Shreshtha) until the latter is abducted one night and sold to the gangster Ustad (Danny Dengzongpa), a hideous figure who compels crippled and orphaned children to beg and steal. Years later, as Raju grows into a skilled thief, he reunites with his family amid efforts to dismantle the criminal syndicate, blending emotional family drama with action sequences.
This song picturisation takes place in a ‘desee daaru kaa addaa’ which I guess is run by Kashibai (played by Smita Patil). Police Inspector Khanna (played by Kanwaljeet Singh) in disguise of a ‘drunken person’ or may be in a mood of ‘mastee’ eulogises vilaayati sharaab and gets drunk on it. Smita Patil cannot tolerate desee sharaab being slighted and she takes up the cudgels on behalf of desee sharaab. Amit Kumar sings for for Kanwaljeet Singh and Anuradha Paudwal for Smita Patil.
