Since most of them work behind thge scene, they often go uncredited even though their contribution in creating a composition could be of vital importance.

Everyone has heard this song. Ca music lovers list down the things about this song that make them like this song. One thing is the singing by Kishore Kumar. Then the lyrics of Anand Bankshi, and of course the music of Rajesh Roshan.

Even if you may not have noticed it, you must have savoured it subconsciously. It is the whistle that gets played between the stanzas. This whistle contributes a lot to the popularity of this song.
Who was the whistler of this song ?
The person who whistled in this song was Nagesh Surve.
Nagesh Surve was a musician who played in the orchestra of the leading music directors of 1970s. He had learnt Sitar and Violin from Ramprasah Sharma. He used to play these instruments in the orchestra of music directors. On one occasion when recording of a song got cancelled, the musicians decided to go on a picnic. In that picnic, Nagesh Surve was whistling some tune. His whistling was heard by Kishore Sharma, music arranger of Kanu Roy. He was so much impressed with this whisling that he used his whisling in a song that he recorded for a Kanu Roy composition.
Word spreadin the Mumbai movie music circles that there was this person Nagesh Surve who was a whislers par excellence. He was called upon for the recording of several songs whee he whistled.
The very first song of Nagesh Surve which became a big hit and established him as a master whistler was this song from “Julie”(1975).
The question arises, it is alright, but why this song was not covered earlier. The reason is I wanted to pay tribute to Nagesh Surve on his birthday.
As it is, I could not find his date of birth anywhee online. But he has mentioned it in his interviews that he was born in 1949 on the day of Nagpanchami. That is why he was named as Nagesh.
I checkedup when Nag Panchami fell on 1949. It turns out that 30 July 1949 was Nagpanchami. So 30 July it the birthday of Nagesh Surve.
Today is 30 July 2026. So Nagesh Surve completes 78 years today.
