Today’s actress to be introduced here with an Asha Bhosle song is Dia Mirza. Atul jee’s post on letter D with the list of actresses whose name begin with D and have lip-synced to Asha Bhosle’s songs is here. Dia Mirza is not only an actress but also a film producer, model, and environmental activist. She was born on December 9, 1981, in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. She began her career as a model and gained national recognition after winning the title of Miss Asia Pacific International in 2000. This is also the year in which Lara Dutta won the Miss Universe title and Priyanka Chopra won the Miss World title, making it a hat-trick of international beauty pageant victories for India.
Dia Mirza made her acting debut in the Hindi film Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein (2001), in which she played Reena Malhotra opposite R. Madhavan and Saif Ali Khan. Although the film did not become a major success when it was first released, it later developed a strong cult following and became one of the most remembered romantic films of the early 2000s.
Following her debut, Dia appeared in several Hindi films. She starred in Deewaanapan (2001), Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge (2002), and Dum (2003), demonstrating her versatility as a young actress. She also appeared in films such as Koi Mere Dil Mein Hai (2005), Dus (2005), and Fight Club – Members Only (2006).
One of the important films in Dia’s career was Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006), a popular comedy-drama starring Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi. She played the supporting role of Simran and was part of a film that received widespread critical and commercial acclaim. She subsequently appeared in films including Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd. (2007), Acid Factory (2009), and Love Breakups Zindagi (2011).
After working mainly in mainstream Hindi cinema, Dia gradually expanded her career into production and more socially relevant projects. She made a notable appearance in Sanju (2018), the biographical drama about actor Sanjay Dutt, in which she played Manyata Dutt. The film became one of the biggest commercial successes of her career.
Dia Mirza also worked in streaming productions and later returned to prominent film roles. She appeared in Thappad (2020), a critically acclaimed social drama directed by Anubhav Sinha. The film dealt with issues of marriage, dignity, and domestic violence. She also appeared in Kaafir (2019), a web series in which she played a Pakistani woman living in India, earning appreciation for her performance.
In addition to acting, Dia Mirza also works as a film producer. Through her production work, she supports stories dealing with social and environmental issues. Her career has therefore developed beyond conventional Bollywood acting and has included cinema, digital entertainment, and socially conscious filmmaking.
She is also widely recognized for her environmental activism. She has campaigned on issues such as climate change, wildlife conservation, plastic pollution, and sustainable development. She has served as a United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Goodwill Ambassador and has used her public platform to encourage greater environmental awareness.
Today’s song is from the film Koi Mere Dil Mein Hai (2005). The film was directed by Deepak Ramsay, with a screenplay by Humayun Mirza and produced by Arjan Das and Mahesh Kumar. It starred Priyanshu Chatterjee and Dia Mirza in the lead roles, with music composed by Nikhil-Vinay. The film was released on 3 June 2005. The supporting cast includes Kader Khan, Rakesh Bapat, Neha Bajpai, Reema Lagoo, Sadashiv Amrapurkar, Dinesh Hingoo, Himani Shivpuri, Rita Bhaduri and Amrita Prakash.
The story is about the wealthy Malhotra family. The family consists of Vikram Malhotra (Kader Khan), his wife Mrs. Vikram Malhotra (Reema Lagoo), and their son Raj Malhotra (Priyanshu Chatterjee). Raj also has a sister, Soni Malhotra (Amrita Prakash).
Raj’s parents want him to marry Simran Gore (Dia Mirza), the only daughter of their close family friend Ishwarchand Mangatram Gore, also known as I.M. Gore (Sadashiv Amrapurkar). Simran lives in the United States with her parents and is expected to come to India to meet Raj and marry him.
However, Raj does not want an arranged marriage. He wants to find someone he truly loves and marry his soulmate. Raj eventually falls in love with Asha Thakur (Neha Bajpai), who is the tutor of his younger sister, Soni. Asha comes from a poor family and does not feel comfortable with Raj’s attention. She refuses to encourage his romantic advances because she believes that Raj and she come from completely different backgrounds. At the same time, Simran also does not want to marry Raj. She is already in love with Sameer Khan (Rakesh Bapat), a young and talented singer who is trying to build a career in the music industry. Simran wants to marry Sameer instead of Raj.
When Simran’s family calls her to India, she is introduced to Raj. Raj and Simran soon realize that neither of them wants to marry each other. Instead of becoming husband and wife, they decide to help each other cancel the marriage. Raj wants to marry Asha, while Simran wants to marry Sameer. Therefore, Raj and Simran make a plan to stop their arranged marriage and return to their respective lovers.
But they soon discover something shocking: Sameer is actually Asha’s fiancé. This creates a major problem for both Raj and Simran. Raj realizes that the woman he loves, Asha, is engaged to the same man whom Simran loves. Simran also realizes that her beloved Sameer is already promised to Asha.
Raj and Simran decide that the only way they can be with their own loved ones is to separate Sameer and Asha. They work together and eventually succeed in breaking up Sameer and Asha. After this, Raj’s marriage with Asha is arranged. Everything seems to be going according to Raj and Simran’s plan, but both of them begin to feel guilty about what they have done. On the night before the wedding, Raj can no longer keep the truth to himself. He meets Sameer and honestly tells him how he and Simran worked together to separate him from Asha.
Sameer is hurt, but he chooses to forgive Raj. He tells Raj that he should go ahead and marry Asha. Sameer also asks Raj not to tell Asha the truth about what happened. He knows that if Asha discovers that Raj and Simran deliberately broke up her relationship with Sameer, she could be completely devastated. Simran is also feeling guilty. She meets Sameer and confesses that she has now realized that she truly loves Raj. However, she believes that it is too late because Raj is going to marry Asha.
Meanwhile, Raj is preparing to marry Asha. After the wedding ceremony, Raj speaks to his new bride and tells her that he has realized that his true love is actually Simran. He believes that he has married Asha and expects that she will be heartbroken when she hears this. However, Raj gets a huge surprise, when the bride lifts her veil, Raj discovers that the woman he has actually married is Simran, not Asha.
It is then revealed that Raj’s father, Vikram Malhotra, had overheard Simran’s confession to Sameer, in which she admitted that she had realized her true love for Raj. After hearing this, Vikram understood that Raj and Simran genuinely loved each other. Vikram therefore secretly arranged for the brides to be swapped. Instead of Raj marrying Asha, Simran became his bride. Raj and Simran finally get the chance to be together, while Sameer and Asha also reunite.
In the end, Sameer and Asha forgive Raj and Simran for what they did. The film ends happily, with both couples finding their true partners and (hopefully) moving forward with their lives.

Dia Mirza has already made her debut on this blog with zaraa zaraa bahaktaa hai from the film Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein (2001). If I have not mistaken in identifying Disco Shanthi, Asha Bhosle has lip synced for her in a mujra song, ‘heere motiyon se tol sajna’ in ‘Kabzaa’ (1988).

Also, Asha Bhosle lip syncs for Dipti Bhatnagar in the song, ‘haseen sama hai pyaar kaa’ in ‘Hitler’ (1998).
You may consider covering these two songs in your subsequent articles for the actresses with letter ‘D’ who are yet to be represented with Asha Bhosle’s voice on the Blog.
