‘Wo Din Aayega’ (1987) was produced by Kamala Singh-Sanjay Singh and was directed by Satyen Bose. The cast included Ashok Kumar, Rajan Sippy, Divya Rana, Raj Kiran, Komal Mahuvakar, K N Singh, Tom Alter, Ashalata, Abhi Bhattacharya, Jagdev Bhambri, Anoop Kumar, Madhu Malhotra, Lalita Kumari, Kamaljeet, Shail Chaturvedi, Pradeep Saxena etc.
In the 1980s, many Hindi films were made covering the genre of crime and romance. The film under discussion had one additional element – the lost brother’s character who was found with amnesia. A son of DCP is kidnapped by a criminal gang as a quid pro quo for release of one of his henchmen. But the gang has kidnapped a wrong boy – instead of the son, it is DCP’s nephew. There are tense moments in DCP’s family as emotions are running high. On the other hand, DCP is bound by his duty to eliminate the criminal gang and he cannot compromise in this matter. DCP gets killed by the criminal gang. Years pass and DCP’ son and his nephew grow in a different environment. The nephew has lost his childhood memories due to an accident and he cannot recognise his real family. Eventually, DCP’s son and nephew join together after his memories return and overpower the boss of the criminal gang.
The story of the film in detail is as under:
Deputy Police Commissioner, Anand Sahni (??) stays with his wife, Indrani (Madhu Malhotra), a son Ajay. He has brought back to his house his widowed sister, Sumitra (Ashalata Wabgaonkar) with her son, Kapil (Jugal Hansraj) due to ill-treatment by her mother-in-law.
Police Commissioner (K N Singh) receives a letter from an industrialist, Vijayendra Saraogi (Shail Chaturvedi) that he has received an extortion call from a dreaded criminal, Somnath (Tom Alter) to deliver him Rs. 15 lakhs within seven days. In the next five days, he has to make a business visit to Germany. He has, therefore, requested the Police Commissioner to provide security to him. Police Commissioner entrusts the work of providing security cover to Saraogi to DCP, Anand Sahni.
On the day of Saraogi’s departure to the airport with police escort, Somanth’s henchmen, Kalia is successful in killing Saraogi but he is captured by the police. Somnath tries to bribe DCP Anand to get his henchman, Kalia released but fails. Somnath assigns his henchmen to kidnap DCP Anand’s son, Ajay so that he can bargain for the release of Kalia. However, instead of Ajay, his henchmen kidnap, Kapil, nephew of DCP Anand.
On the day, Kalia was to be produced before the court who was to give evidence against Somnath, he is shot dead before he enters the court premises. Somnath hands over Kapil to DCP Anand as he has no worry about Kalia giving evidence against him. However, while DCP Anand was returning home with Kapil, Somnath shoots DCP who gets killed and his jeep falls in the valley. Thakur, a retired army personal (Abhi Bhattacharya) finds an injured Kapil and takes him to his house. Kapil has lost memories due to head injuries and he is not able to remember anything about his mother and the address of his house. So, Thakur adopts Kapil until he is able to recall his memories.
The story takes a leap jump. Ajay Sahni (Rajan Sippy), son of DCP Anand has become a doctor in Neurology. He joins a hospital as assistant to Dr. Bhattacharjee (Ashok Kumar). Incidentally, the hospital is owned by Somnath who is now in a different avatar as the chairman of the hospital giving up his criminal activities. His henchmen have become the employees of the hospital.
Once on his way to the hospital, Ajay accidentally meets Suman (Divya Rana) who is the daughter of Thakur when her car develops some problem. Ajay drops in her house where he meets Kapil, now known as Ravi (Raj Kiran). Apparently, Ajay does not recognise him as his cousin nor Kapil/Ravi recognises Ajay having lost his memories. Ajay comes to know from Suman that he has some serious brain problem which makes his behaviour unpredictable – sometime rude and sometime loving. Ajay suggests that Kapil/Ravi be taken to Dr Bhattacharjee who is a well-known neurologist in the hospital where he is attached.
Kapil/Ravi is admitted to the hospital for a check-up. Dr Bhattacharjee is of the opinion that it is necessary for him to recall his childhood memories. There must be some serious incidence during his childhood which has affected his brain to lose his memories. He suggests Ajay to bring his favourite belongings during his childhood which may trigger his memory. However, Ajay does not know about Kapil/Ravi’s childhood. His enquiry with Thakur reveals that he was found seriously injured in a valley. He takes Ajay to the place where Ravi was found when Ajay suddenly remembers that his father, DCP Anand’s body was also found in a mangled jeep around the same place when he was bringing Kapil back from Somnath. Ajay is now sure that Ravi is in fact his cousin, Kapil who was presumed dead along with his father in the jeep accident.
Both Ajay and Suman have fallen in love with each other and Thakur blesses them for their marriage. Ajay visits his house along with Kapil/Ravi and Thakur and reveals to his aunt, Sumitra about their impending marriage. However, before that, by the slip of tongue, Ajay has told his aunt that Kapil is alive and very soon he would being him in the house. This was contrary to the instructions given by Dr Bhattacharjee that this should not be revealed to Kapil/Ravi at this moment.
Despite the instructions to the contrary, Ajay reveals Ravi that he is Kapil, his cousin and they used to go to the school together. However, Kapil does not remember anything. On the contrary, Ravi suffers from shock as he always felt that he was the son of Thakur. This developments adds further confusion in Ravi’s mind resulting in his frequent pass out. Kapil/Ravi is once again admitted to the hospital. Having failed to respond, Dr Bhattacharya decides to take the risk of administering a drug through injection which can either trigger his memory back or can make him losing his mental balance. Fortunately, Kapil/Ravi gradually starts his childhood memories faintly coming in his mind. He even recognises two of the hospital’s employee who were once upon a time Somnath’s henchmen.
Somnath, now the chairman of the hospital gets to know developments in the hospital about Kapil/Ravi through his henchmen who has now become the employees of the hospital. Somnath was also under the impression that Kapil had died along with DCP, Anand. With this development, Somnath is worried that he can get exposed to the police as Kapil has spent a day in his captivity. He orders his henchmen in the hospital to get rid of Kapil first and Dr Bhattacharjee later. However, Kapil now regaining his entire childhood memories and Ajay joining him overpower Somnath. The hospital staff take control of Somnath’s henchmen in the hospital. They take the custody of Somnath to be handed over to the police. Ajay, Kapil and his mother Sumitra unite.
The film had seven songs including a double version song which were written by Majrooh Sultanpuri and set to music by Aalok Ganguli. The film makes a debut on the Blog with its first song, ‘haay re nazar lad gayee’ rendered by Asha Bhosle and Chorus which is picturised on Komal Mahuvakar and other dancers. Raj Kiran, Divya Rana and Rajan Sippy among others are also present during the picturisation. Towards the end of the song, Raj Kiran joins Komal Mahuvakar in her dancing.
The context of the song is that Ajay (Rajan Sippy) has visited for the first time Suman’s (Divya Rana) house who is the daughter of the retired army personal, Thakur (Abhi Bhattacharya) where Kapil, now known as Ravi (Raj Kiran) stays having been adopted by him. Suman reveals that Ravi’s behaviour is unpredictable, sometime crude and sometime loving. He often passes out when he is tense. Being a neurologist, Ajay wants to observe Ravi for some time when his mood changes so that he can diagnose. Suman tells him to visit again when a nearby tribal community’s festival is due during which Ravi will be surely present. It is during the festival, Suman, Ajay and Ravi joins together to watch the dance by a tribal girl (Komal Mahuvakar). Kapil/Ravi does pass out when dance song is on a crescendo, after which he is admitted in a hospital.
