“Jazbaat” (1980) was produced by Tarachanda Barjatya and directed by Suraj Prakash for Rajshree Productions Private Limited, Bombay. The movie had Raj Babbar, Zarina Wahab, Rajendranath, Bhagwan, Savita Bajaj, Shail Chaturvedi, Dinesh Hingoo, T P Jain, P Jairaj, Subbiraj, Jankidas, Viju Khote, Leela Mishra, Moolchand, Shashi Puri etc in it.

One song from the movie has been covered in the past.

I was not aware of this movie when it was released during its time. When I watched the song under discussion, I found the song reminiscent of the songs of “Saawan Ko Aane Do”(1980). That movie too was a Rajshree production movie and that also had music by Rajkamal. So I can only conclude that Rajshree productions made “Jazbaat”(1980) with the same story line hoping to replicate the success of “Saawan Ko Aane Do”(1980) but that was not to be.

Here is this second song from “Jazbaat”(1980). It is sung by Sulakshana Pandit and female chorus. It is picturised on Zarina Wahab and other females as a dance song. Mahendra Dehalvi is the lyricist.

As a standalone song, it is a nice song to listen to. But it failed to get as popular as other Rajshree productions songs. Perhaps Hemlata was best suiited female playback singer for Rajshree production movies. Sulakshana Pandit (in this movie) and others like Dilraj Kaur, Chandrani Mukherji etc failed to recreate the magic of Hemlata in Rajshree productions movies.

Sunday 12 April 2026 was a sad day for music lovers. Just as people were waking up to a leisurly sunady morning that they came to know that Asha Bhonsle was hospitalised following some uneasiness. Such age related problems are normal, most people thought and got on with their lives. But a few hours later, came the shocking news that Asha Bhonsle was no more. What a devastating loss for music lovers. It was on another sunday that Lata Mangeshkar had departed for her heavenly abode. That was four years ago. So both sisters have followed each other at the same age of 92.

Today’s song is from an obscure and less known Costume film- Captain Kirti kumar-1937.

The year 1937 was a year of Revolution for the newly started Talkie Film. Initially the films were mainly based on Folk tales, Parsi dramas and Mythological stories. 1937 was a year in which the Film industry was trying to drop its old skin and don a New Avtar. From this year, a variety of subjects were used to make films. If we briefly look at some path breaking, landmark films using Novel themes, we will understand how the film industry was attempting to change itself.
