A few days back, I had discussed hamri munder boley kaaga sakhi ri from the film BAABLA (1953) on this blog. But well before this song, I had come across another song ‘lehron ke rele sang naiya mori khele’ from the same film sung by Hridaynath Mangeshkar. The voice sounded girlish. My first reaction was that it must have been some mistake on the part of uploader of the audio clip to name him as a singer of this song. My doubt stemmed from the fact that Hridaynath Mangeshkar was born on October 27, 1937. At the time of recording this song, he must be around 15 years by which time the voice of a boy should have turned in to a boyish or a male voice. So I kept this song in the loop for some time until I made fairly sure that this song was really sung by him.

“Vish Kanya” (1943) was a Ranjit Production movie. The movie was directed by Kidar Sharma. It had Surendra, Sadhana Bose, Prithviraj Kapoor, Kamla, Leela Mishra, Sulochana, Brijmala etc in it.

The movie had Uttam Kumar, Vyjyanti Mala, Tarun Bose, Shashikala, Rajendra Nath, Pratima Devi, Veena, Badri Prasad, Sulochana Chatterjee, B B Bhalla, Radheshyam, S Hussan, Vishi Kapoor, Ratan Gaurang, Praveen Paul, Sundeep, Pinky etc in it.

“Kaali Ghata” (1951) was a Hindustan Chitra Production. It was produced and directed by Kishore Sahu. The movie had Kishore Sahu, Bina Rai, Asha Mathur, Jeevan. Gope, Ulhas, Cuckoo etc in it.

Well one of these days, we may come to the bottom of this ocean of melody. Well yes, after all, the music that was created in the first four decades – has been created, and it is not possible to add to it anymore. And so one day we would have discovered all that is there to discover, and would have discussed it here on this blog. But as of now, there is still so much out there in front of us that thankfully, it is still going to be many years before this treasure gets exhausted. And I am sure there is enough for a lifetime. 🙂
