This article is the 12200th song post in the blog.
The duration has been sliced to less than half, rather almost one third. That is, in comparison to the previous interregnum. Maybe not THE quickest but one of the quickest. Ah yes, I refer to the century milestone, the 122nd that we strike today. The reference to the duration is the time comparison between this one today, and the one that came just before it. We had hit the 12 thousand mark on 20th April. After that, it has been a real slow tread to come to the next one hundredth mark, which happened on 18th June. Counting the days, the number is 60. One of the tardiest to have occurred on this blog. But then we made it up, very sprightly and very quick – from 19th June to 10th July today. Counting the days, the number is 22. Wow, that is the bandwagon at its galloping best. The Raanchiwaala Gaanewaala is pulling out all the stops.
Congratulations to all the bandwagoneers – one more batch of a hundred songs is now added to the collection. And the musical journey continues, merrily onwards.

This article is the 12100th song post in the blog.
Today, with this post, we arrive at the 12,100th post on this blog. That’s 121 centuries that this blog has clocked so far. The mind continues to boggle.
As a person who’s seen this blog from day one (from the time “mile na phool” was posted as the very first song on this blog), I feel elated everytime we reach a milestone. I still remember when Atul posted the 100th and then 200th and so on. Each one was an occasion for celebration. Because each one was a marker of progress on a journey that we knew would be a long (and highly enjoyable) one. We have done that 121 times now – and I think I speak for many of us when I say, ye dil maange more. :-).

Songs to Tickle Your Memory – 32

hazaaron khwaahishen aisi
ke har khwaahish pe dam nikle
bahut nikle mere armaan
magar phir bhi kam nikle
roz aise hi hota hai, it happens almost every day. Every day, there is a song that comes to mind, or a song that someone reminds me of, or a ‘new’ old song that I get to hear – a song that is not yet on the blog, or maybe not yet online even. There is an immediate urge, a rush to sit down at my desk and finger type a new post on my laptop. And also upload it online, if need be. Many a time I even start it. The melody continues to hum in the mind. Always overlaid on to another melody that is now a fixture in the backdrop, a melody that you have heard me mention often in my writings – ye hansta hua kaarvan zindagi ka na poochho chala hai kidhar

Forgotten Melodies of the 1940s – 46
——————————————————–
I take it as a privilege to present the 100th song of a low profile music director who was very active during 1937-1948 though his musical career in films extended till 1965. I have described him as a low profile music director because he and his music has rarely been discussed in articles and books pertaining to Hindi film music. Even Dr Ashok Da Ranade, in his book ‘Hindi Film Song – Music Beyond Boundary’ has not found it necessary to discuss the technicalities of his musical scores who was music director for 58 films aggregating over 600 songs. The music director under discussion is Gyan Dutt.

GUL-E-BAKAWALI (1956) was the Hindi dubbed version of Tamil film ‘Gulebakavali’ (1955) which was produced and directed by T R Ramanna. The star cast of the film included M G Ramchandran, T R Rajkumari, G. Varalakshmi, Rajasulochana, S D Subbulakshmi, E V Saroja, K A Thangavelu, J P Chandrababu etc. The film has the usual fantasy and adventure story befitting the roles that M G Ramchandran is known for. The Tamil version had 11 songs composed by Viswanathan-Ramamoorthy. Hindi dubbed version had 8 songs written by P L Santoshi (7) and Indeevar (1) which were composed by Gyan Dutt. However, the tunes used in the Tamil version were retained in all the eight songs.

It is a very special occasion for the blog but this special occasion escaped everyone’s attention. The reason could be that my manual score keeping gave me a different figure compared to the automatic count given by the blog. When I accidentally looked at the count on the right hand side of the blog, I found out that Asha Bhonsle’s count of songs in the blog stood at the round figure of 2000 !

🙂 🙂
Welcome all to our next century milestone, piling nine hundred on top of eleven thousand. And we are now just 100 short of the next thousandth milestone. And we hope to get there shortly now. This milestone has been quite slow to arrive. We have taken full forty days from the previous century, which occurred on 24th Jan.

This article is the 11800th song post in the blog. This article is the 400th song post of Manna Dey in the blog as a playback singer
There are occasions when I start using terms like “musical bandwagon”, “one man show turning into an online collaboration”, “a pot getting filled drop by drop” etc. When regulars come across such terms, they know what could be the occasion. Indeed this is one such occasion. It is the 118th such occasion for the blog. In other words, we reach 118th century in the blog with this song. Yes, this writeup marks the 11800th song in the blog.
