Through his career spanning over 40 years (he has been around from 1984), Khan has established himself as one of the most notable actors of Indian cinema.

The film was made by Punjab Film Corporation, Bombay. It was owned by Wali Saheb, who was the Lyricist and the director of this film. By the way his wife Mumtaz Shanti was the Heroine in this film. The Music Director was Ghulam Haider. The cast of the film included Mumtaz Shanti, Ashok Kumar, Mumtaz Ali, Maya Devi, Neelam, Sultana and many others.

‘Mr Sampat’ (1952) was produced and directed by S S Vasan under the banner of Gemini Pictures. The film starred Motilal in the title role of Mr Sampat with Padmini, Vanaja, Sundari Bai, Swaraj, Agha, Kanhaiyalal, Badriprasad, Kailash Nath, J S Casshyap, B S Kalla etc. This was Padmini’s first Hindi film in a lead role. The film was adapted from R K Narayan’s novel, ‘Mr Sampat – Printer of Malgudi’ (1949). It is a satirical film.

Today (1 March 2025) is the 83rd birthday of Indrani Mukherjee (born on March 01, 1942). I have watched some of her 1960s’ films mostly having pious and graceful roles. She was born in Allahabad (now Prayagraj) in a Bengali Brahmin family. Her father was a doctor and her mother, a housewife. She did her early schooling in Allahabad and completed her high school studies in Kolkata. From her childhood, she was interested in Hindi films.

Hullo Atuldom
A long time ago, sometime in my childhood, there used to be an ad that used to start with “a small & happy family”. The family is shown to be sitting and enjoying quality, family time when suddenly there is a problem in the form of a flickering TUBE-LIGHT. Basically it was an ad for some brand of TUBE-LIGHTS that we used to see in cinema halls. From that ad, I learnt that small things effect smooth functioning of families.

‘Laagee Naahee Chhoote Ram’ (1963) was a Bhojpuri film produced by Ramayan Tiwari and directed by Kundan Kumar. The cast included Ashim Kumar and Kumkum in lead roles with the supporting roles of Indrani Mukherjee, Nazir Hussain, Anwar Hussain, Tiwari, Ram Singh, Leela Mishra, S N Tripathi with Helen and Mehmood making special appearances. This was the third film in Bhojpuri dialect, the first and second being ‘Ganga Maiyya Tohe Piyari Chadhaibo’ (1962) and ‘Bidesiyaa’(1963), respectively. Nazir Hussain wrote screenplay and dialogues, apart from doing an important supporting role in this film.

“Saanjhi-1984” alias ‘The Shared One’ was directed by Pradeep Hooda for ‘Shree Ganpati Films, Bombay’. It was produced by Sumitra-Satish. The cast of this movie has Sachin, Sumitra, Dinesh Thakur, Sadashiv Amrapurkar, Goga Kapoor, Om Puri, Naina Behl, Rekha Sahay, Shabnam, Javed Khan, Raghuvendra, Master Sameer, Lahri Singh, Mattu, Keval Handa, Sadanand Phadke, Kamini Bhatia and others. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 15.10.1984. This movie is considered one of the most successful movies made in Haryanvi language. However the Censor Board certificate mentions this movie as a ‘Hindi’ movie. Niaz Haider is the writer of this movie. Editing of this movie is done by the well-known editor-duo of Hindi films Waman Bhonsle and Gurudutt Shirali.
