Today (9 August 2025) is Rakshabandhan. Incidentally, Rakshabandhan was the first festival for this blog when this blog began on 19 July 2008. On that year, Rakshabandhan was on 16 August 2008, one day after Independence day. Chosing an appropriate song for the occasion was a no brainer for me. I had covered the iconic Rakshabandhan song, bhaiyya mere raakhi ke bandhan ko nibhaana. That post turned out to be a “game changer” for the blog as the blog received visitors in three digits on that day for the first time. That was a breakthrough for the blog as it began to get noticed by more and more music lovers.

We have been covering rakshabandhan related songs on all Rakshabandhan days. There have been 17 such occasions on the blog so far. All the well known rakshabandhan songs have already been covered by now. 26 Rakshabandhan related songs have been covered on these 17 occasions.

Today, on the occasion of the 18th Rakshabandhan day (9 August 2025) for the blog, here is a lesser known Raksha bandhan song. This song is from “Pyaar Ka Rishtaa”(1973).

Nowadays I am presenting saawan songs from Hindi films that were so far missing from the blog. In this process I am coming across surprises on a daily basis. I am discovering some great compositions.

Everybody has his/her own preferences in music. As for me, I mostly enjoy those creations that I had not listened to earlier.

While looking for songs thst I had never heard before, I got to listen to these songs and I noted them down to be used for my write-ups. That is how I got to listen to these songs, by specifically searching for them, something that most normal music lovers are not likely to do.

Today’s saawan song is from the movie ‘Krishna Leela-1946’. When I came across this song, I was surprised that it was still missing on this blog, because the singer of this song is none other than Kanan Devi.

The composition soaked in the delight of saawan is by Gulshan Soofi, while the verses swinging in the spirit of saawan are by Naqsh Lyallpuri. The month of saawan is at its peak. Activities like visiting temples, offering prayers, having get-togethers and visiting nearby tourist places reach their peak in this season. This Sunday there a was trip arranged by the family club of the colony at my new workplace. However, I could not participate in that due to other priorities. People from my department who were part of this trip told me that the place they visited had a big farm with a ‘lake/pond’ around and a temple of goddess. The snacks and lunch were arranged from the canteen at our work place only and people enjoyed ‘antaaksharee’, housie, playing games and relaxing in the midst of lush green fields around. We in India celebrate nature, and we celebrate seasons. We pay our respect to nature through many customs and rituals. Different religious and spiritual activities are practiced during this period. People all over the country follow these customs, rituals, and traditions with some local variations.
