“A” grade movies were not the only movies that get made in Bollywood. There are many B grade, C grade…Z grade movies which also got made. Most of these movies failed to register in the radar of mainsteam audience.

Dara Singh, an Arnold Schwarznegger like personality to Indians of 1950s to 1970s, acted in many C grade movies. And as happens with such movies. neither the movie, nor its songs reach the mainstream audience, and majority of people remain oblivious of their exisatence.

I think I need to open a category of songs which I enjoyed listening to, even though I had no clue which movie they were from. Then I forgot all about these songs ( because the song alongwith its movie were forgotten) and then I stumbled upon the same song recently once more.

In 1970s, when Amitabh Bachchan ruled the roost, I found it perplexing that Amitabh Bachchan movies with silly plots did good business whereas movies which were truly good in my judgement failed at the box office. To my mind, movies like “The Great Gambler”, and “Deshpremi” weere better movies than say “Muqaddar ka Sikandar” and “Suhaag”, but that is not what the public thought at that time.

“Mehboob ki Mehandi”(1971) is a lesser known movie starring Rajesh Khanna and Leena Chandawarkar, but this movie is a musical blockbuster. I have posted a few songs from this movie, and each of these songs is a gem.

“Talaash” (1969) had awesome music and a nice story line. In another time and era, this movie would have gone on to become a musical blockbuster. But unfortunately this movie had to compete with “Aradhana” and it was a knock out contest. “Talaash” was knocked out and “Aradhana” won.
