When I look at the list of songs from “Baiju Baawraa” (1952), my mind just boggles. There are so many songs in this movie, and every song is a timeless classic that is very well known even today. The creators of these songs, who were among the most talented people of all time in Bollywood history had excelled while creating these songs.

“Chacha Chaudhary” (1953), which was one of the earlier movies of Madan Mohan was interesting in the sense that he preferred Asha Bhonsle’s voice over Lata’s voice for female solo songs. Lata’s voice was used only for duets in this movie. Rajinder Krishan was the lyricist.

In late 1950s and early 1960s, there were quite a few movies with “Bambai” in their title. Thus we had titles like “Bambai ka chor” and “Mr X in Bombay” those days.

I have mentioned earlier that Dev Anand outlived his stay as a leading man in Bollywood movies. as a result, many stories with great ideas flopped just because Dev Saab insisted on playing the hero in those movies. In fact, legend has it that Prakash Mehra had wanted to cast Dev Saab in “Zanjeer”. Dev Saab liked the role, but he wanted Prakash Mehra to sell him the story so that he could make this movie in his own way ( and hopefully add one more flop to his CV). Thankfully Prakash Mehra refused and the rest, as they say, is history with Amitabh Bachchan playing that role.

Hai duniya usi ki zamaana usi kaa

“Kashmir Ki Kali ” has so many nice songs that this particular song somehow misses out in the popularity stakes. Though I have heard this song a few times, and for that matter I have even watched the movie, but I was not aware that the song “hai duniya usi ki zamaana usika” was from “Kashmir Ki Kali”.

I have been posting one evergreen song after another from “Badi Bahan”(1949). And readers may have noticed one thing about them- all these song were solo songs sung by a female singer. Wow ! Women’s lib had taken place so long ago as far as this movie was concerned.
