Today (23 september) is the death anniversary of Rajinder Krishan, an underestimated lyricist but who in reality dominated lyrics writing during the golden era of Hindi movie music. Among all the lyricists figuring in this blog, Rajinder Krishan has the second highest number of songs (554), behind Majrooh Sultanpuri (582).

“Jugnu” (1947) was a major Hindi movie in many ways. It was Noorjehaan’s last Hindi movie. It was this movie which gave us Dilip Kumar, who till then was a struggler. Noorjahaan acting opposite Dilip Kumar gave Dilip Kumar’s career a big fillip and he never looked back since.

“Achhoot Kanya” (1936) was a Bombay Talkies movie. It was produced by Himanshu rai and directed by Franz Osten. The movie had Ashok Kumar, Devika Rani, P F Pithawala, Kamta Prasad, Kishori Lal, Kusum Kumari, Pramila, Anwari, Ishrat etc in it.

Launching one’s son/daughter in movies in nothing new. This practice is nearly as old as the time whern movies began to be produced in India. The very first star kid who was launched in Hindi movie could well be Nargis in 1940s. She was then followed by Nutan.
