However, with the advent of talkies and playback singing from early 1930s, film songs based on the classical ragas, semi-classical and folk tunes have played a major role in popularising these genres of Indian music especially during the golden era of the film music. In a way, films have become the catalyst for providing equal opportunity to all across India to access music.
