Looking at the title of the song, most people are justified if they exclaim-“What ! This song was not yet covered !!”. My excuse is the same old one. All these days I was under the impression that this song was already covered long back.

We in this blog had even covered a 1941 song with similar lyrics namely Inhi logon ne le leenha dupatta mora (Himmat)(1941), but much to my surprise this well known “Paakeezah” (1971) song had so far remained uncovered.

Better late than never. Here is this mujra song from “Paakeezah” (1971). It is sung by Lata and it is picturised on Meena Kumari. Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by Ghulam Mohammad.

This song had stood second in Binaca geetmala final of 1972 behind “Dum Maaro Dum” (Hare Rama Hare Krishna). That song incidentally is also missing from the blog. 🙂

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Atif M.

Pakeezah is one of my MOST favorite movies. I can watch it anytime. I am surprised this song was not covered already 🙂

I love EVERYTHING about this mujra. The dance, the background, the lyrics, the music, above all Meena Kumari. What a masterpiece!

I have seen this movie some years ago. I call it a canvas of ‘profound scenes ‘ . This is the first song in the film, starts just as the title ends. I did not know that this was also written by Majrooh Sultanpuri.

My personal favourite from this movie is “aaj ham apni duaaon ka asar dekhenge”, though the remaining four Lata solos (including the above) are very much in the realm of perfection. Difficult to decide which one is the best.

Aziz Kashmiri got the credit for writing this song in Himmat (1941). Thereafter Tanvir Naqvi got the credit for this song in ‘Aabroo’ (1943) and Majrooh Sultanpuri in ‘Paakeezah’.

The style of poetry is similar to Amir Khusro’s .https://atulsongaday.me/2013/03/11/chhap-tilak-sab-chheeni-re-mose-naina-milaayke/

He has used the word ‘rangrejwa’ and ‘leeni’ in ‘chaap tilak sab cheeni’.

Yes. For a long long time Aaj ham apni was my top favorite.

Sometimes it is thade rahio, which has such a lovely pace.

Sometimes it is Mausam hai aashiqana.

I think I just love them all.

I am equally surprised that this song was not covered already. 🙂

A critic had rightly remarked, Pakeezah -Heroine : Lata Mangeshkar, Play-front : Meena Kumari . Can anybody think different ?

Sometimes reality is stranger than the fiction. It is really surprising that this song was not covered till yesterday in this blog. Paakeezah was an all time great movie immortalised by Meenaji – favourite heroine of milliones. Wonder, how Atulji missed this song as well as Dum maro dum so far….

It is one of those iconic landmark songs that identify an era and a genre and have left an indelible legacy. Lata, a colossal star by then, has her name inextricably linked to this song.

Wonderfully executed masterpiece. Ghulam Mohammed, a pupil of the Great Naushad, has outdone the master!

so that means there is one song left in Pakeezah….. coz lat tym i had sent the lyrics of the Vani Jairam song to Atul i had seen 2 were left. the last one is by Parveen Sultana and Music by Naushad

Thanks Atif ji for this masterpiece song..!!
Thanks for getting in on board… like most of us I was also surprised that this was balance to be posted.
