There have been two excellent reviews of 83 film which was released recently on 24 December 2021. As such there is not much to add to the review per se. But then the event itself is engraved in golden moments and letters in the annals of sporting history of our country. Well, there always was hockey in which we ruled the roost in those days. People had little doubts in their minds on the continued dominance of West Indies which had already won the first as well as the second world cup in 1975 and 79 respectively. Dark horses India created history by upsetting West Indies in the finals by successfully defending a modest score of 183 runs, a record which stands tall to this day.

It was on this day 50 years ago that the biggest surrender of an army was signed at 16:01 IST at Dacca. Lieutenant General Jagjit Singh Aurora of Indian Army got Pakistan Army’s Lieutenant General Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi to sign on the instrument of surrender. We are into 2021. 1971 was exactly 50 years ago. How many of us are aware that the calenders of the two years are identical ! The calender of 1971 can be used in 2021 as well !
It was on the midnight on 3/4 december 2021 that Mrs Indira Gandhi, then Indian prime minister addressed the Indian public on radio. It was a national emergency that is why this address to the nation was at that unearthly hour. At around 5:30 PM, Pakistan Air Force had launched a pre emptive attack on Indian air force bases located on the west. They bombed 12 air bases in not one or two waves, but in three waves throughout the evening and night.

Few days back, I came across an obscure song rendered by Janardan Tanjorkar from the film ‘Kuchh Naya’ (1948). The surname ‘Tanjorkar’ sounded odd to me. It was apparent that Janardan was from Tanjore (now Thanjavur). But why did he use a Maharashtrian sounding surname? Was he a Maharashtrian whose family migrated to Thanjavur during the reign of Marathas in the 17th and 18th centuries? A search on the internet revealed a very interesting family background of Janardan Tanjorkar.

Happy Independence Day to all!!!
Today (15 august 2021),We are celebrating the seventy-fifth year of our hard-fought freedom that we got on 15th August in 1947. We can breathe in this free air now because many had sacrificed their present at that time for our future. There are many known and too many unknown freedom fighters who laid down their lives to see India as a free nation. The nation has grown up to seventy-four years old now and is stepping into the seventy-fifty year of its life.

Hullo to all in Atuldom
Ideally I would have liked to send the song with this post, a few days back so as to be posted on 26th July which was ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’. A day, which commemorates India’s victory over Pakistan, and regaining control of the mountain tops in Northern Kargil of Ladakh in July 1999.

Today’s song is from a very obscure film Lieutenant-1944 ( It is pronounced as लेफ्टनंट ). It was actually a stunt film, belying the film title, which misled the readers thinking that this was a War film ! The only connection of this film with War was perhaps that this film was made during the II WW period.

Every few years or so, we have people proudly posting the photographs of their fingers with indelible ink in it, as proof of having voted in a parliament election or an assembly election. 🙂
These days, we have a non recurring once in a century occurrence taking place, namely Covid 19 vaccination. The process of this covid vaccination in India is very much comparable to the process of parliamentary general election. People are getting themslves vaccinated, and posting photos of their vaccination on their social media accounts. 🙂
