Today’s song is a qawwaalee song from the movie ‘Behraam Daaku-1959’. This movie had made its debut on the blog on 01.07.2017 with its song ‘betaab hai dil bechain nazar’ and later one more song ‘tere sitam ki daastaan’ was posted on 08.04.2018.
“Behram Daaku-1959” was directed by Akkoo for ‘Afzal Films, Bombay’. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 20.11.1959 (as mentioned in Geet Kosh Vol-III-1951-1960). It had Manhar Desai, Chitra, Sheikh, Ashraf Khan, Habib, Tuntun, Shyam Kumar, Raj Adib, Menka Kumari, Daraj, Sharda, Babulal, Ranjana and others in it. As mentioned by Shree Atul jee in his post while presenting the first song from this movie “Behram Daaku”(1959) is a rare movie with obscure songs.

Today’s song is from a social film- Fashionable wife-1959.
Very few know that there was an interesting film of the same title- Fashionable wife in 1938 also. I called it interesting, because its Hero- Sardar Gul, came from Calcutta and did a role in the film Said e hawas-1936, made by Sohrab Modi’s film company ” Stage Films”. Sohrab Modi gave the Hero a screen name of Chandra Kumar. Actually, the film was only a shooting of the very popular stage play of the same name. Sardar Gul was promised Rs. 200 for this film. However the film flopped miserably and Modi refused to pay him more than Rs. 50 only. Enraged, he threw the money on Modi’s face and left for Calcutta. After 2 years he returned to Bombay, with a new screen name Anil Kumar and acted in the film Fashionable wife. He went on to do more than 30 films till 1964.
Similarly, the film Fashionable wife-1959 was also interesting. The heroine of the film- Jaymala was the wife of the producer director , B.K.Adarsh. She had done few films earlier, but being the wife of the producer she was made a Heroine, as it was all a ” Ghar ka mamla” ! She was neither very beautiful nor a very good actress. This is how Nepotism existed in Hindi films for a long time.

I had never heard of the film, ‘Ladies Tailor’ (1981). When I checked the cast, I could never imagined that Sanjeev Kumar was in the role of a ladies tailor. The film was produced and directed by Khalid Akhtar. The cast included Sanjeev Kumar, Reena Roy (in double role), Amjad Khan, Deven Verma, Pran, Aruna Irani, Bindu, Mukri, Raj Kishore, Urmila Bhatt, Manju Singh etc. Sharmila Tagore, Rekha, Moushumi Chatterjee and Parveen Babi appeared in cameo roles as themselves. The film belongs to light comedy genre with the background of Lucknawi cultural milieu. The film was released on March 21, 1981.

(Debutant Movie – Sikkaa-1976)
Today I am presenting a lesser heard or never heard Qawwaalee song from the movie ‘Sikkaa-1976’. I do not remember to have discussed or heard about this title during my growing up years in the seventies. I became aware of this movie title through Geet Kosh Volume-V (1971-1980). It seems that this movie ‘Sikkaa’ was an obscure movie of its time, as the list of the songs of this movie didn’t appear familiar to me. But what piqued my interest is the title of this song and it being mentioned as a ‘qawwaalee’ song.
“Sikkaa-1976” was directed by Dilip Bose for ‘Mona Movies, Bombay’. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 30.12.1976. It had Anil Dhawan, Ambika Johar, Krishan Dhawan, Satyen Kappu, Helen, Aashu, Bhushan Tiwari, Mohan Choti, Rajan Haksar, Kalpana Shah, Agha, Dalda, Jugnu, Bholanath, Ratan Gaurang, Satish Khanna, Krishna Khanna, Pradeep Suri, Child artiste Dharmender and others. Child artistes Lovely, Kittu, and Soni make their debut in this movie and Nana Palsikar, Keshto Mukherjee and Anjana Mumtaz had special appearances in this movie.

Today’s song is a Qawwali from the film Hurricane Hansa-1937.
The Indian film industry was still in its childhood in 1937. It had been just 6 years since the first Talkie film was made in India. The initial years were of experimentation. The filmmakers were trying various topics in their films.
Indian audiences may be from different states and languages, but Mythological and Stunt films were common favourites all over India. From the first decade when the first silent movies were made till the 1960s, these two genres continued unabated.
Most of us like to see films, be it on a TV, in a cinema hall, or through DVD. Some like old films, some like new films. Did you ever see films like, Khooni Khanjar, Dagabaj Doctor, Shaitan ka paash, Char chakram, Daku Rani Talwarwali, Jaadu ka dandaa, Zinda Laash, Revolver Rani, Sinbad-Aladdin-Alibaba, Flying man, Fighter Sheela, Khooni Darinda, Tarzan aur Jadugar, Tarzan aur Jadui Chiraag, Golden Gang, Murde ki jaan khatare mein, or Jadui putli ?

Hullo Atuldom
July 29th was the 22nd death anniversary (already that many years!!) of the actor Johnny Walker who was much adored as a comedian. The characters that he typically played were of “Drunkards” & he excelled at them, inspite of not touching a drop of alcohol throughout his life.
He was born Badruddin Jamaluddin Kazi in Indore, in present-day Madhya Pradesh. He was part of a family, that had 12 children, which moved to Bombay (of those times) when his father lost his job. He got a job as a bus-conductor in Bombay Electric Supply & Transport (BEST- Bombay’s bus service). He was spotted by actor Balraj Sahni entertaining his passengers with his comical way of calling out bus stops and his hilarious impressions and antics. Balraj Sahni introduced this fan of Noor Mohammed Charlie to Guru Dutt. Balraj Sahni told Kazi to demonstrate his drunkard act to Guru Dutt. From that meeting, he gained a role in ‘Baazi’ (1951).

In this post we listen to a song from the 1959 movie ‘Tin Tin Tin’. Tin-Tin-Tin-1959 made its debut on the blog on 12.08.2014 with its song ‘ jhoomti bahaar hai raat hai jawaan’. Two more songs from this movie were posted on 02.12.2020 and 24.04.2023. When I had shared the first song from this movie as a lyrics contributor in 2014, it was the only song from this movie that was available online at that time. Subsequently, other songs from this movie too have become available. Only audio of these songs are available and no videos of this movie are availaable.
‘Tin Tin Tin-1959’ was directed by B.J. Patel for ‘Kirit Films, Bombay’. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 06.08.1959. It was produced by Dhanpatrai. It had Ceasar (a dog trained by Jimmy Bharucha), Neelofar, Samar Roy, Mirajkar, Habib, Rajan Kapoor, Vishwa Mehra, Devchand, Moolchand, Bhudo Advani, Abdul Sattar, Tun Tun and others. # Debutant Movie –Mandir Masjid-1977#
————————————————
Today’s song is a wonderful sufi qawwaalee from the 1977 movie ‘Mandir Masjid’.
I was longing to share this song on the blog. I have listened to this song many times and liked this composition very much. The singers of this Qawwaalee song are Mohd Rafi, Manna Dey, Shankar-Shambhu, and Ram Kumar. I was under the impression that this song also has the voice of Jani Babu Qawwaal but Geet Kosh and other sources do not mention his name. As per information contained in Geet Kosh Vol-V (1971-1980) the famous Qawwaalee duo Shankar-Shambhu had confirmed that this song was composed by them, though the music composer for this movie was Sharda. They had also informed that this song has the voice of Ram Kumar as well(I am not aware about him).
