There are several movies called Dillagi, but the earliest movie of this name that I am awre of is “Dillagi” (1949). This movie had Shyam,Suraiyya, Amar, Sharda, Amir Bano etc in it.

Ab wo hamaare ho gaye

When one talks of “Safar”, I am reminded of a 1970 movie by this name starring Rajesh Khanna. But there was another movie by this name that was released in 1946. Not much is known about this movie, at least to me, but it seems that this movie had actors called Kanu Roy, S L Puri, V H Desai, Shobha etc. Naseem Akhtar (never heard of this name) was a singer in this movie.

Bollywood movie songs of 1940s are of considerable importance and interest, because the singing legends of later decades were taking their first tentative steps in their singing careers at that time. For instance, Rafi was just two movies old as a playback singer when 1947 began. In 1947, he sang in “Do Bhai” and “Jugnu”. The “Jugnu” song-“Yahaan badla wafaa ka bewafaayi ke siwaa kyaa hai” proved to be the first major hit of his singing career.

Kapoor khaandaan males were known to romance their would be wives on screen before tying up the knot in real life. Shammi Kapoor has done it, and Rishi Kapoor has done it. In case of Randhir Kapoor’s would be wife, Babita, I found her romancing Shammi Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor onscreen instead (Chhee Chhee !).

Phoolon ki tarah wo hansti thi

People of my generation were aware of a Hindi movie called “College Girl” (1978) which had a hit Kishore Kumar song, viz. Pyaar maanga hai tumhi se na inkaar karo. Old generation music lovers though were more aware of another movie of the same name that was released in 1960. This movie, viz. “College Girl” (1960) had several nice songs sung by Rafi in it.
