After posting four songs for the day, I suddenly realised that today is 16th november, Roshan’s death anniversary. I have not counted the number of songs sung by Rafi for Shammi Kapoor, but it is high time I did that. There are so many of them, and it is amazing how Rafi could summon so much energy and enthusiasm every single time he had to sing a song for Shammi Kapoor. Just about everyone of these songs are gems, that have stood the test of time.

“Deepawali” also called “Deewaali” means festival of lights in Hindi. There is another similar sounding unrelated word in Hindi called “deewaala” which means bankruptcy, which is nearly an antonym of deewaali. This word play of deewaali and deewaala is often used in common conversation by people.

There are songs that are best enjoyed as part of the movie, and then there are songs that are best enjoyed in isolation. Here is a song that falls in the later category, viz this song is best enjoyed as a stand alone song. This song is from a movie called “Paalki” (1967) and this story was as retrograde and illogical as any that Hindi movies can subject their followers to.
