Today’s song is from the film Do Roti-57. It is sung by Shanker Dasgupta and Suman kalyanpur ( I think she was still Suman Hemady then), under the baton of composer Roshan.

Music Director Shyam Sharma, a regular employee with HMV (later on, RPG) had in 1970 recorded an Album named “Swar Bahar” that had ten melodious devotional and love-songs by Suman Kalyanpur (aka Suman Hemadey, her maiden name). Seven out of these ten have now been covered in this wonderful singing blog. This one is the eighth jewel from that Album. Some songs which were not Meera Bhajans were love songs written by Anjaan and Yogesh. This one is written by Yogesh.

I will narrate a story that I heard long back and since both the persons I am going to talk about are no more living, I am sure I will not be contradicted. (We all know the person who talks about being chummy and very close to all non-living persons)

Original HMV of EMI group, when purchased by the Goenka Group, was called RPG. Later on in 2000, this major music producing company was aptly named as ‘Saregama’.  During earlier years, it used to sponsor great artists to produce many non-film music albums.  Later-on, under the false pretext of changing music trend, but mainly due to commercial considerations, such publications along with classical music albums ware slowly reduced to very near zero.

एक दोस्त मिला आज, बहुत सारे सालों के बाद।

Yes, years and years have passed since we last met. And today, while searching for someone else, I located the one I had probably met once or maybe twice, and then never met again for decades.
