“Chandralekha”(1948) was a Hindi remake of Gemini’s movie of the same name in South Indian languages (Tamil and Telugu) and all these versions turned out to be hugely popular and this encouraged Gemini and other South Indian production houses to foray into production of Hindi movies in future.

I have been posting the songs of “Anmol Ghadi” (1946) these days. It was pointed out to me that I had not posted arguably the most popular song of the movie, viz. “Aawaaz de tu kahaan hai”. Was it really so ? I checked up and found that I had posted two songs from this movie starting with “A” , but the song under discussion was not one of them. And I was actually under the impression that the song was already posted !

If Nargis was “Mother India”, then who was “Miss India” ? Few people may be aware of it, but both these movies were released in the same year viz 1957. “Mother India” went on to become a timeless classic, whereas “Miss India” was forgotten. And interestingly, Nargis herself was in the lead role of “Miss India” too.
