Today’s song is from the film Nek Parvin-1946. It was produced under the banner of D.R.D.Productions – Bombay. This banner was floated by D.R.D. Wadia, a cousin of the owners of “Wadia Movietone” – J.B.H. and Homi Wadia. He was professionally a Barrister from London, but seeing the success of his cousins and having the blood of a business clan, he too entered film production. However, after producing just 4 films (Ishara-43, Aina-44, Nek Parvin-46 and Pati Sewa-47), he closed this business and concentrated on his legal profession.

Today’s song is from the film Nishani-1942.
As far as the Film Titles are concerned, our filmmakers are not very knowledgeable, I would say. Some titles give one meaning and the film is about something else. There are so many examples of this. If you go through the Film Title index, you will find strange titles. Anyway, more about this some other time.

Today’s song is the last song from the film Lajawab-1950. With this song the film will be YIPPEED !
The year 1950 was the end of the second decade of the Talkie film. It has been just about 3 years since we got our Independence. The film industry seemed to stabilise after the upheaval caused by the mass migration of Muslim artists and technicians from India to their new Utopia – Pakistan. The second line of ‘ waiting in the Q’ artists had taken over without much trouble. The 20 year old ‘ Studio System’ was breaking up and Freelancing was the code now. The cost of film production, from a mere 30 to 40000 rupees in the early 30’s has now escalated to 5 to 6 lakhs per film. This was also due to the ever increasing star costs from 3-4 thousand per film to almost 50-60 thousand per film for ‘A’ grade actors. The Black money in the market was now freely used in the film industry.

Today’s song is from a controversial film, released at the end of the 1940’s decade – Hanste Aansoo-1950.
First of all the title itself seems to contain contrasting emotions. One smiles when he is happy and one has tears when he is hurt or sad. I feel we get tears when we are sad or hurt of course, but even when a person is too happy he gets tears in his eyes. For example, when a child is away for many years, the mother feels sad and weeps in his memory. But when he comes back after many years and hugs his mother, she gets tears at that time also, with happiness !
