The storyline of “Phagun” (1958) was clearly inspired from “Naagin” (1954). In “Naagin”(1954), the heroine finds the music of “been” irrestible, whereas in “Phaagun”, hero’s flute has a similar effect on the heroine. In “Naagin”, we had Pradeep Kumar and Vyjyanti Mala in lead roles, whereas in “Phagun”, we had Bharat Bhushan and Madhubala playing the same roles.

In old Bollywood movies, actors were often seen singing while playing a grand piano. Songs like that to me were unrealistic, because firstly, it is not possible to play that huge instument while singing a song at the same time. And secondly, expecting the lead actors to possess a huge grand piano, as well as a huge mansion to accomodate the said piano was unrealistic to my mind.

“Samrat Chandragupta” (1958) is a by now forgotten movie which starred Bharat Bhushan and Nirupa Roy in lead roles. But the songs of this movie are still remembered by music lovers who like to listen to old songs.

This is one song that must be as rare a song as they come. Listen to this song and try to judge the people involved in the creation of the song. It is easy to notice that the song is picturised on Dhumal and Tuntun who emerge out of the church after getting married and then immediately burst into this comic song. The song is sung by Rafi and Geeta Dutt.
