The name of Bhagat Singh evokes strong emotions in the hearts of all Indians. This great son of Punjab laid down his young life fighting for the independence of India from the rule of the British aggressors.Bhagat Singh was born on September 27, 1907 to Sardar Kishan Singh and Vidyavati in the Khatkar Kalan village in district Layallpur in of undivided Punjab (now in Pakistan). Many senior members of his family were part of the Gadar party, and the spirit to fight the British was inherited in his blood.

When it comes to titles for Hindi movies, most of these titles are one to three words long and then tend to have certain common Hindi/Urdu words in them. Combination of an adjective like Badi/Chhoti plus a noun for a woman itself may yield half a dozen or more titles. Then using words like Afsaanaa/fasaanaa/Kahaani either alone or in combination of a few other words leads to many titles. The possibilities are in fact endless.

“Ghar Basaa Ke Dekho” (1963) is not a very well known movie. This less known B grade movie had Manoj Kumar and Rajshree in lead roles.

While posting the song “in hawaon mein” from Gumraah (1963) recently, I discussed at length my fascination for BR Chopra films. I will not repeat myself here but I will just say that most of his films had fabulous songs too.

1963 was a year when Hindi movie music was at its pinnacle. There were countless musical extravanzas that were released that year. Just thinking about the names of the movies boggles the mind. When I was a young boy I never quite understood why a movie was often referred to with the director’s name attached to it. For example, people would talk about Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Anand or Bawarchi or Shakti Samanta’s Aradhana. For me these were movies of Rajesh Khanna first and foremost. Yet they would invariably be attached to the director, as if he owned the movie.
