Lata Mangeshkar was at her zenith in 1960s in my opinion. And she was helped in that by the fact that she was the preferred choice of the best music directors of that time, who also happened to be the all time greatest music directors of Bollywood.

The same could be said about the lyricists. Genuine poets and shayars of the highest class used to write lyrics for the bollywood songs. And the heady mixture of quality singing, lyrics and music was for all to see and listen to.

“Woh kaun thi” (1964) must rank as one of the best suspense movies made in Bollywood, and this song is arguably one of the best suspense songs in this movie as well as in the history of Bollywood movie music.

Here is one Lata song where she for a change does not sound high pitched or shrill ( as has been the case in a few of her songs). Raja Mehdi Ali Khan has written this song that captures the atmosphere so admirably well. Madan Mohan has created a masterpiece that was appreciated by masses and classes alike. This song was 9th in Binaca geetmala final of 1964.
