Hullo Atuldom
Just discovered that Kumar Sanu is turning 67 (DoB 23 September 1958).
He has been around singing songs in Indian films since 1983. He first figured in a Bangladeshi film in 1986 whereas his first major Bollywood song was in “Hero Hiralal” (1988). He was born as Kedarnath Bhattacharya to Pasupati Bhattacharya who was a vocalist/ composer whose ancestral home was near Dhaka. The family moved to Calcutta (now Kolkata) in search of livelihood, where Kedarnath was born.

Hullo Atuldom
“Ek Chadar Maili Si” is a classic Urdu novella written by Rajinder Singh Bedi. It was a story of a tradition in Punjab, as part of which, the younger brother weds his elder brother’s widow upon the latter’s death. This tradition is called ‘chadar daalna’. Compelled by custom and physical force, the male protagonist of ‘Ek Chadar Maili Si’ weds his sister-in-law.

Today 19th of August’2024 is the fifth ‘Remembrance anniversary’ of legendary music director Mohammed Zahur “Khayyam” Hashmi Saab. He was born on 18th February 1927 and passed away on 19th August’2019.
As a tribute to him today, we are covering songs composed by him today on this blog. So far four songs have been discussed today.

‘Sawaal’ 1982 was produced by Yash Chopra under his own banner of ‘Yash Raj films’. It was directed by Ramesh Talwar. Music of this film was by Khayyam Saab and the lyrics were penned by Majrooh Saab. It had an impressive star cast including Waheeda Rehman, Shashi Kapoor, Sanjeev Kumar, Poonam Dhillon, Prem Chopra, Helen, Padma Khanna , Kalpana Iyer, Jagdish Raj, Yunus Parvez, Mac Mohan, Gautam Sarin, Vikas Anand, Harjeet, Ranveer Raj, Avtar Gill, Anjan Shrivastava and others.

This movie has Rekha, Raj Kiran, Mazhar Khan, Om Shivpuri, Urmila Bhatt, Yunus Parvez, Anjan Shrivastava, Helena Luke, Pooja Saxena, Vinod Pande, Nalini, Rabia Amin, Asha Sharma, Raj Kishore, C.S. Dubey, Surinder Pal, Nitin Sethi, Monto, Vikas Anand, Surendra Gupta, Sunil Dhawan, Dinesh Kaushik, Segma, Suhail Khan, Manisha Parikh, Satish Kaushik, Manmauji, Brij Gopal, Uma Khosla, Moolchand, Mahapatra, Reshma, Neelu Arora and others. Marc Zuber made a guest appearance in this movie.
