Today 18 july 2024 is the remembrance day of Rajesh Khanna. I know (thanks to media coverage) that he passed away on this date, but it still comes as a huge surprise to me to realise that 12 years have gone by since that date. How time flies. It seems like yesterday when I was listening to Binaca geetmala final on the last wednesday of 1971, when almost every song that got played was picturised on Rajesh Khanna, including the number one song. Then I realise that 1971 was 53 years ago. More than half a century ago. The world has changed considerably from those days.

(12th Remembrance Anniversary Day of Rajesh Khanna – 18th July’2024)
Today on the occasion of actor Rajesh Khanna’s 12th Remembrance Anniversary we pay our tributes to him by posting songs from the movies he acted in.
In this post I am presenting a song from the ‘1990’ movie ‘Swarg’. Trying to recollect now, I think this was the last movie of Rajesh Khanna which I watched in the theatres. I was staying at Kota (Rajasthan), and we had watched this movie on a holiday with colleagues from the company I was working in. Later on, as I progressed in my professional career, I had to shift to Bareilly (UP) where I stayed from 1999 to 2004. During this period the movie ‘Aa Ab Laut Chalen 1999’ was released, but I do not remember why I failed to watched it at that time. Subsequently I watched some movies of Rajesh Khanna on TV or on various channels. The latest Rajesh Khanna movies (for me) that I watched a few months ago were ‘Ajnabi-1974’ and ‘Amar Prem-1971’.

Rajesh Khanna – The Phenomenon – 13
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –- – –
‘1983’ to ‘1988’ was the ‘peak time’ for me for watching Rajesh Khanna movies. From ‘1983-1985’ I was studying (? 🙂 ) in 11th-12th standard and staying at Akola with my grandparents. There was our group of friends who shared common interests of cricket and Kaka. Couple of my friends in this group were bigger fans of Kaka than me.Following the success of ‘Avtaar’ and ‘Souten’, earlier movies of Rajesh Khanna were also re released in theatres, and we used to watch them in theatres.

(12th Remembrance Anniversary Day of Rajesh Khanna – 18th July’2024)
Today 18th July 2024 is the ‘Twelfth remembrance’ anniversary of Rajesh Khanna. He was born on 29th December’1942 and he passed away on 18th July’2012.
On this occasion, as a tribute to him, here is a song from the movie ‘Aanchal-1980’. Regulars on this blog must have noticed that majority of the Rajesh Khanna songs from his earlier movies (1967-1976) were covered on this blog in the initial years of this blog. These song-posts then were read with much interest and some regular commentators would post their comments on these posts with passion. And why not, some of them were big fans of Rajesh Khanna. Among these regulars used to be one of our senior team-members Raja Saab. He also wrote many heartfelt posts on Rajesh Khanna on this blog. In recent years he has taken a break from writing on the blog, and I hope that and wish that he will make a comeback in future on the blog.

Today’s song is from the film Dharmveer-1937.
This film was released 6 years after the Talkie film started. Just before the advent of Talkie films, Parsi theatre and other drama companies were the only Entertainment sources. Parsi Theatre was famous and most successful because it travelled all over India to perform. They used special reserved Trains to carry people and sets, drapery etc for their company from kashmir to kanyakumari and Gujarat to Rangoon. The success of Parsi Theatre was attributed to Pt. Narayan Prasad Betaab, Pt. Radheshyam Kathavachak, Agha Hashra Kashmiri and Master Fida Hussain – called the four Pillars of Dramas.

Today’s song is from a one time famous and honoured film from the Prabhat Films – Amar Jyoti-1936.
This is one of those films which tried something new through a story – a story of a lady rebel who became a Sea Pirate. Right from the silent era first film in 1913 till 1936, it was something daring for a film story. It was the first of its type.Later on also, for whatever unknown reasons, very few films were made on pirates. When Prabhat decided on this story, the big question was who to be chosen for the main role. Durga khote’s name was finalised as she looked suitable for the role of a desperate yet kind and strong yet lovable character of the woman pirate.
