Hullo Atuldom

As a youngster, I had heard a song which had the mukhda ending with ‘prem ka hum shree ganesh karein’. At that time I didn’t know what the phrase “shree ganesh karein” meant. As time passed, I learnt that it meant a new-start for any activity or venture by seeking the blessings of your God and elders. I know for sure that followers of Islam say “Bismillah” at similar situations. I think it is a very Indian practise. I know of students who used to write some holy symbols on top of every page of their answer sheets at the time of important examinations. ( I have heard that the various education boards have prohibited this recently, don’t know if this is being implemented. 🙂 )

What is 90? Well, nothing more than a number.

And yes, it is also a milestone in life, that many a blessed people arrive at, and continue to move ahead. It brings up another thought – what is life at 90? No need to elaborate on that one. Yes, we all have seen folks in our families, in friend circles, in the group of acquaintances. Folks who have arrived at the 90th milestone, and continue. Sometimes those impressions are not so palatable. Sometimes the physical bodies, and sometimes even the spirit, is so tenuous and vulnerable. Yes, it is wonder to be at 90, and beyond. According to some surveys, about 90 percent of the Indian marriages are still the outcome of arranged alliances. While the parents/elders are involved in the process of the selection of alliances, the ultimate decision are supposed to be left to boys/girls. But in reality, in most cases, under the pressure from the parents/elders, the boys/girls will not go against the selection of alliance by their parents/elders.  In such cases, some newly married couples may soon realize that they are not in love with their spouses after the marriage for variety of reasons. But they continue to live together as the divorce is not a pleasant option. In some cases, over a period of time, a feeling of mutual care and trust set in the married couples.  This is broadly the main theme of the film ‘Dam Laga Ke Haisha’ (2015).

Music of Uttam Singh / Music Composer – Uttam Singh – 03
——————————————–

This series on the songs composed by music composer Uttam Singh has been going on for some time. Today I present an ‘epic song’ composed by him from the movie ‘Gadar Ek Premkatha-2001’.

Today we know Uttam Singh as a successful and famous ‘music-composer’, who composed songs for movies like ‘Dil To Paagal Hai’, ‘Gadar Ek Premkatha’ etc. But I doubt how many of us know about his initial struggles and his ‘inspirational story’ of ‘struggles to successes’. (Even I was not aware of his full biographical information till recently).

Today’s song is from the film Aaj ka Hindustan-1940.

The second world war had already begun in 1939 and the British Government had promulgated many restrictions on the Indian people like rationing of food items. rationing of petrol and other essential items. As far as the Film industry was concerned, the Raw Film used to be imported as it was not yet made in India. The Government started a quota system for the filmmakers, based on a formula of films made in an year on average and many related parameters. This created problems for individual filmmakers who made films at random and had no studio of their own.
