I have already posted two songs from “Kaabuliwaala” (1960). This movie was a very moving tale of a Pathan from Afghanistan who lives in Calcutta away from his family, including his young daughter, and he misses her every day. He adores Minnie ( a young girl) in Calcutta and after initial apprehensions, she too takes to him.

Till sometime back, I was not even aware of this movie called “Maaya” (1961). Now I have become aware of this movie because of its remarkable songs. Like the movie, its songs were unknown to me too, but not any more.

Perceptions about singers, lyricists and music directors can often be so misleading. For example, if Mukesh and Lata sing a duet written by Majrooh and composed by Chitragupta, then what does one expect ? A mythological song ? Or perhaps a sad song ? Or a song based on rural characters ?

Dhoondho dhoondho re saajna

This song “dhoondho dhoondho re saajna” was on my list of farmaishes for quite some time. I have no idea whether the hero actually searches for the “baala” that the heroine asks him to do in the song, but I was certainly searching for this “gaana”. And finally I managed to locate it yesterday.
