The year is 1966. The “Yahooooo” of Junglee has already happened in 1961, and has set a benchmark and a career path for Shammi Kapoor. After having spent a better part of 50s in a set of indifferent roles, Shammi Kapoor found his calling and came into his own in the spectacular success of Junglee.

“Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiyaa” (1966) had a story line that could send movie watchers a headache with its storyline. This movie, despite a good cast- Nutan, Dharmedra, Rehman etc, had a storyline that few people could digest, and few people did.

“Dulhan Ek Raat Ki” (1966) is a movie that had Dharmendra and Nutan in lead roles. The movie itself failed at the box office though one song from this movie, viz Ek haseen shaam ko dil mera kho gayaa has gone on to become an immortal song.

I keep repeating ad infinitum that there are so many great songs lying all around as far as Hindi movie music is concerned. And these gems are not always the creation of well known music directors. Even lesser known and unsung composers have created great songs for which they received no recognition. worse, their creation was later used by other better known musicians as their own.

In the olden and golden days of Hindi movies,great music was created not only in mainstream A grade movies, but also in lower budget B grade movies. There was a glut of talented music directors and even low budget movie producers were in a position to hire high class music directors.
