Here is another song that I thought I had posted, but I was wrong. But then I had posted other songs from this movie and they were also superb songs.

“Shrimaanji” (1968) is a movie whose songs were too elusive to locate for me all these days. Finally they seem to have become available and I was able to post one song from this movie.

I was on the lookout for this song for quite some time, ever since Raja gave me the farmaish of this song from “Shrimaanji”. In all this time, I managed to find (and post) several songs from “Shrimatiji”, but I drew a blank as far as locating songs of “Shrimaanji” was concerned.

Few people, including me have heard of this movie called “Apna Ghar Apni Kahani” (1968). This movie had come in an era when we had a glut of classy songs, and I do not recall ever listening to songs of this movie. Not that I could have been able to identify the songs as belonging to this movie, had I heard the songs then.

In movies, only the young and beautiful (read hero and heroine) are seen romancing, which to my mind is not fair. even old and ugly people also have the right to romance. So I always rejoice when villains, comedians and bit actors are shown romancing in movie songs.

I have posted a few songs from “Vaasnaa” (1968) in the past. This movie had some nice songs in it. But considering that 1968 had a bumper crop of outstanding songs, many great songs found themselves pushed out of contention by other songs jostling for the same space. I had neither heard the name of the movie nor this song, but this song appears a good one to listen to. This song is from “Juaari” (1968). 1968 was a yera that I regard as the plainum year for Bollywood music, and this yera saw many great songs ending up being forgotten just because there were far too many great songs jostling up for limited spaces this year. The songs from “Juaari” were certainly such songs. The fact that this movie did not do well at the box office must have been a factor too. But then what can one do when the hero of the movie is Shashi Kapoor ? 😉

While listening to bollywood songs, it is interesting to observe that many characters who speak in simple laguage while talking burst into a song containing flowery high sounding language. After the song is over and normality is restored, they resume their talk in plain language.

I had once mentioned that the version of song seen in the movie and heard in the records was often different because they were recorded on two separate occassions. Imagine a great song being recorded not once but twice ! Once for the movie sound track, and once for the record company.
