Directed by R Kaushik, under the banner of ‘Lalmani Films, 1969 social film Sapna’ had the star-cast of Dilip Raj, Nivedita, Jagdip, Mohan Choti, Manmohan Krushna, KN Singh, Bhagwan Sinha, Preetam, Ganesh, Rinku, Bela Bose, Meenakshi, Sarita Devi, Sadhana Khote, Kalpalata, Ameena etc. Jaidev set the tunes to the lyrics by VN Mangal.

After posting the ‘thhumri’ ‘Saajan ki Baat Niraali’, here is one more ‘thhumri’ by Suman Kalyanpur under the direction of Khan Saheb Abdul Rehman Khan. The traditional lyrics were modified by Khan Saheb himself. These two thumries were on an Extended Play disk (EP) and was purchased by me 46 years ago in January 1969.

“Pyaar Ka Mausam”(1969) was produced and directed by Nasir Hussain. This movie, which was a remake of Nasir Hussain’s own “Jab Pyaar Kisi se hota hai”(1961) had Shashi Kapoor, Asha Parekh, Nirupa Roy, Tahir Hussain, Rajendranath, Madan Puri, Laxmi Chhaya, Tabassum, Sujata, Dulari, Asit Sen, Wasti, Kishan Mehta, Suhail, Iftekhar etc in it.

Searching on internet YouTube, I came across this Rafi’s 1969 ‘Sapna’ song for my ‘Genius of Jaidev’ series. According to HFGK this Rafi’s song is also sung by Krishna Kalle with some minor variations in lyrics for the same film. What can be better, as suggested by seniors of ASAD, than presenting two songs in one posting today, to remember Jaidevji, who took permanent ‘nirvaan’ on this day, the 6th January, 28 years ago!

“Pyaar Ka Mausam”(1969) was a remake of “Jab Pyaar Kisi Se Hota Hai”(1961) was the first movie produced and directed by Nasir Hussain. This movie turned out to be a box office success and Nasir Hussain kept making movies with the same story line in future as well.

It took me A YEAR to present this post today, after the last post ‘Genius of Jaidev – 38’, which appeared on this Blog on December 19th, 2015. After posting two songs by Mangeshkars from 1969 film ‘Sapna’, I have now a solo by Manna Dey. Not having seen the film my guess is that this song must have been picturised on the hero of the film, trying to move away from whatever situation he found himself, in a very dejected state.

The only song by Lata out of six songs from 1969 film ‘Sapna’ is presented here. It is not only melodious but also a heart-touching song describing the pangs of a ‘Virahini’ (separated naayika). B N Mangal’s simple lyrics are set to tune by genius Jaidev adding situation required pathos that brings tears, whenever I hear it. (Which is quite often) Aise ‘nithhur piya’ ko maarne ko bhi man karta hai. It goes without saying that the divine voice of Lata is a major contributing part in creating that effect.

After completing all the songs of 1969 film ‘Jiyo Aur Jeene Do’ with the help from my generous friend from the capital of India, I, now, come to 1969 film ‘Sapna’. Directed by R Kaushik under the banner of ‘Lalmani Films, Bombay’ (sorry, it was still Bombay then) this social film’s star-cast consisted of Dilip Raj, Nivedita, Jagdip, Mohan Choti, Manmohan Krishna, K N Singh, Bhagwan Sinha, Preetam, Ganesh, Rinku, Bela Bose, Meenakshi, Sarita Devi, Saadhna Khote, Kalpalata, Ameena etc. B N Mangal’s lyrics were set to music by Genius Jaidev.
